Scotland Itinerary Help please

Hello all,

My wife and I are going to Scotland in July. 
I have the following courses booked;

Gullane 1

north berwick

Kingsbarns

western Gailes

Turnberry Alisa

Im also going to try TOC for 3 days via lottery. If I don’t get it, I will probably do some combo of;

Elie

Crail

The Castle Course

Dumbarnie

 

Biggest question is which courses would you strongly recommend a caddie?

I don’t need the physical assistance, but I have heard some courses over there are tough to navigate due to routing and blind shots. 
 

Last question is about my wife walking along. Some of these courses are on beautiful plots of land. Can she walk along for 9 or 18 just to take in the views?

If you are looking for a course to play near St. Andrews top of my list would be Lundin. GREAT links course right on the sea. As far as caddies:

Kingsbarns was great back in April, they let my wife walk with me, had the course to ourselves, and then we went back to the Old Course and I caddied for her brother, craziest swing you've ever seen: https://www.facebook.com/reel/1043797754337649

I would strongly recommend caddies for North Berwick, Kingsbarns, and Turnberry. I did Turnberry without a caddie, and while it was a manageable course without one, I thought a caddie would’ve added to the experience a lot. Kingsbarns would probably be fine without a caddie, but I was really glad I had a caddie there. I did Dumbarnie without a caddie and didn’t feel like I was missing out. 
 

Personally, I would skip Crail in favor of the New or Jubilee. Jubilee is one of my favorites courses in the area, and there’s quite a bit of flexibility with how you can move tee times between the St. Andrews Links Trust courses (excluding the Old of course).

Is Turnberry back open?

 

Some of my wife's family are members and they were moving it wasn't going to be open till July..... I drove past a month ago and it was closed.

 

I had a caddie at Turnberry and wish I hadn't he just annoyed me! friend bought me him for a present but still.

 

North Berwick certainly.

I am playing Dumbarnie tomorrow wand not even thought about a caddie, think one of my friends is getting one but it seems a very straight forward course that looks narrow off the tee but much wider than it looks.

Second this, my wife did the same thing more or less at Dornoch. As my caddie had gotten to know me through the first 14 holes, she really bonded with him and they had a good laugh trashing my golf game together as we all walked the last few holes.

 

Also, I’ll second the New/Jubilee, but they’re easier to enjoy if you’re staying in town. Too many courses in Fife, never enough time.

Your wife might like the views at Crail. If they haven’t started building wind turbines.And she might want to wear a helmet. A couple areas of the course get a lot of action. 😄. I enjoy the quirkyness of Crail.
