Is a Data Golf rating really relevant at all? I know it is hard to rank players from LIV but it seems that they get a huge bump compared to others. I don't find them to be valid or an accurate representation.

If you want to argue that past record and current form justify his inclusion I will listen, but I won't listen to anything related to the Data Golf algorithm.

I dug into it for a while because I wanted to like the methodology.  However, I concluded Data Golf gives way too much weight to LIV golf results.  The strokes gained metric throws things off...  Those fields are garbage.

Data Golf will probably figure a way for Reed to gain spots based on his MC this week.

I don't like the way Data Golf uses strokes gained to determine overall player strength. You can't equally apply strokes gained in a field like LIV to a full field PGA Tour event. The small adjustments made for cross over results (the Majors) is far too limited to be able to adjust. Strokes gained at LIV-Dallas is not the same as strokes gained at The Travelers.

I know there are no perfect algorithms but I don't like the approach used by DATA Golf.

I like datagolf because strokes gained is easy to understand. I'm not sure if they have some sort of SOF adjustment. On the flipside strokes gained at the Amex isn't the same as strokes gained at Valderrama. One is wedge contest and the other is one of the toughest courses in the world.

I may be totally wrong and hope someone can chime in, but I believe Strokes Gained is 100% field dependent.  There is no rating/slope-like metric that takes into account course difficulty.  So if 3/4 of the LIV field stinks strokes gained becomes "skewed" at the top (IMO).

Strokes gained doesn't take a lot of things into account, too many to list here .... 🤣

Strokes gained is relative to the field and the model favors consistency over a guy who has high peaks but low off weeks. It's a solid model but not without it's flaws. Straka for example is 10th in the world but 19th in the data golf rankings. He's got 2 wins and 3 more top 10s in Sig events his year. But guys like Corey Connors and Burns are ranked ahead of him in the DG rankings. No one in the right mind would say Sam Burns has had a better season then Sepp.

Gotterup?

Story writes itself, no? Jersey boy playing in NY at Bethpage. Huge hitter. Swag. I think you have to seriously consider him. It’s a perfect coming out party for him.

Cart ahead of the horse on that one. He's certainly had two impressive showings in back to back events but he's been lackluster prior. Plus missing the cut over 40% in 2025.

He's on the watch list with a lot more to prove.

I think I'd have to agree with Paul and Brandel....Keegan needs to have the conversation with him and see how he responds with his play over the playoffs. Need to light a fire and see if he can set a blaze or does it fizzle out.

agreed lets see how he comes back across the pond next 2 tournaments arent the hardest fields if he wants to earn his way on the team a win at wyndham or a strong showing in the playoffs lets say a top 10 or 2 and that would justify the pick

is outside the top 20 i really dont think keegan's going to pick him unless he wins a tournament between now and september

I'd leave him at home but he is part of the club and has had a better season that people think. Here hasn't missed many cuts and has a decent amount of top 20 and top 10 for the tournaments he played.

Talent is clearly there, but I'd want to strong end to the season and ride the hot hand. Looks a player.
