Is there anything you'd purposely do to irritate other golfers?

I f’ing hate it when I misshot and they said nice shot. Sure it’s a compliment and they don’t know better but I know I didn’t strike it well, I just happen to have very good misses.

It's all relative. I sometimes get told good shot while I'm silently bemoaning the shot.  It confuses my pea brain but it goes in one ear and out the other.  Golf is hard.  Sometimes I play with random people that are happy the ball went in the air.  Me hitting a shot in the air sort of near the green is a good shot to them.  They're being polite.  I think I read somewhere that good golf is all about having very good misses.  My good shots are good.  My misses are horrible.

Only if they're slowing up the group.

I usually walk and often get grouped with other people on carts.

If there's another walker in the group, and he's not trying to actively get a head start so that we're not holding up the group, I won't even bother paying attention to anything he's doing and just walk towards my ball and play ready golf.

Theres been a few times where it was clear I irritated the slow dude, but idgaf. I'm trying to help the group and the people behind us.

I don't do this when the course is packed tho.

I've had a guy say something along the line of "now we're caught up to the group ahead" in a snarky manner.

Yeah no $*** lol. Otherwise, we'd be 2 holes behind.

IDK? I’ve played many many rounds that start out slow and then take off. Could be the course layout or just a couple brain dead dudes that wake up after a few holes. It only takes one or two guys to back everything up.

Regardless, when it’s your turn, be ready to hit and do so. When you’re done, move along. There’s no rushing involved. And there’s nothing more annoying than having someone complete a hole only to linger when they should be walking. You may think you’re only giving Speedy the what for but you’re also affecting everyone behind you.

If there is nowhere for us to go, how could I be affecting anyone behind us?

Im not going to hustle to be all over the group in front of us if it’s clear there is nowhere for them to go either. All you do is stack up on the tee box instead of playing the prior hole a little slower than I’d like, but at least steady.

If it does speed up, rest assured my group will keep pace.

Didn’t suggest hustling. Just hit and move along. If you’re purposely slow footing it you’re like the guy camped in the left lane on the highway that slows down unnecessarily and backs ups traffic. Sure they eventually speed up but the damage is done.

Reminds me of today's round ... was following a group of 5 ... the starter told him they needed to let faster groups play through since they were a 5 ... guy from the group said the same thing every 5some has ever said ... "we play fast, we'll be fine."

They didn't play fast ... they weren't fine.

Reminds me of a round yesterday. We teed off in a shotgun with no one in front of us and no one behind. We caught the group in front on the second hole and they were dragging as was the group in front of them. After a few more holes, a group catches us from behind. Within another couple holes the two groups in front of us disappear. IDK if they quit or just skipped a few holes. And just like that the pace was fine because our group wasn’t purposely lagging just because we had no where to go.

I have been known to do one thing though. If I’m paired with speedy Gonzalez, there’s no where for us to go, and he’s getting mouthy about pace of play, I’ll slow myself down. Slow my walk, and just generally take my time.

Why?

Playing well at a pace slower than you want to in an event is a skill players should have. I’d rather be moving steadily slowly than hurry up and wait on repeat. Playing up the back side of the group in front, when they are up on the group in front of them….not helpful.

Complaining about pace is the only thing worse than the pace. Nowhere for us to go man, complaining won’t make it better.

I won’t be rushed in anything I do in life.

IMHO, on a busy course, if you have the capability to walk up and just hit, you're out of position. Slowing the roll will eventually back everyone up behind you, (2-3 holes back where you can't see).

Waiting at your ball for next shot and getting ready to hit in an event is a skill players should have. Those that move slowly hold up the holes behind them 2-3 back (out of view, can't see). Waiting for slow players to get to the ball when their shot has been clear for 1-2 minutes PER SHOT, when you could have been there and done all the calcs and pre-shot routines like 5 practice swings, and throwing grass, not helpful.

You drive slow in the left lane on purpose, don't you? "I don't know why people always complain about the traffic here... there's none in front of me!"

"exactly"? No. interpreted? Yes. If you're asking people to quote you exactly, then you should phrase your posts using exact terms, and not generalities that are open to interpretation.

Oopsie. Wasn't @mshills

But to your other point, I'd have NO problem at all seeing the group in front of me get right to their balls and then hit them right away.

I'd certainly NOT see that as playing too slow and/or holding us up.

Purposely?  Only when I play with my three brothers. See my avatar. OTOH,  Lee Trevino is my golf idol and I'm conversational  and kid around a lot. When me and my golf buddy Syl get paired with unknowns they usually say at the end of the round that it was fun playing with me. I asked Syl "On a scale of 1-10 how annoying am I to play with" And he said a 7.  I asked why he called me every week he said "Because your so fun to play with"

So never to purposely irritate.

So your annoyance level is just part of your nature....

Once played an a "loudmouth open" where the organizers rented the course for a day, so public wouldn't be subject to our shenanigans.

I think the only rule was don't maim anyone.

Fireworks, fart machines....lots of kegs.  Trash talk all day.

Get it out of your system and then go back to being a respectful golfer.

I hate those idiots that loosen the cart strap on your clubs so they fall when you take off.

It's actually legal to kill them in Texas, I think.

I do love my sun mountain c130 with the extra Velcro straps on the back. They prevent my idiot friends from dumping my bag. And they keep my bag secure on my MGI zip.

I've got an old Ping 1A that I'd pull out when playing with a certain old buddy. The loud Ping coming off the putter drove him nuts.

Drove me nuts too but I wouldn't rant on any on about it.

Man no kidding. You see that happen and guys laughing about it….I’m not with that at all. The exploding ball or the un putta ball or the fake snake, yeah, that can be funny.

Tearing up someone else’s stuff when he might have thousands in that bag….as funny as keying my car.

I agree 100%.  Personally, I’d rather pure a shot 20 yards over the green than skull one and have it richochet off the flag and go into the cup.  And on the rare instance that I do the latter, I hate when someone says ‘nice shot’.  I’d rather they just said ‘damn you got lucky there…’
