Scotty Cameron Phantom 9 Custom Sight Lines - Metalwork

Are there any custom golf club people out there who can fill in the sight lines on the Phantom 9 to create something like this?

It’s possible but won’t be cheap. Will require lots of welding, sanding, and require complete refinish of the head.  Would also lose the milling pattern on the top part.

The cost to do that is probably on par with a custom you can get done.

I got this email back from Kane Kid. Interesting that they won't add the Tour only alignment 

Topline removal on the 9 is possible, but adding the tour only alignment lines is not an option. A short topline may be possible or dots can be added. Chromatic bronze is also not an option for a welded sight line putter as torched finish causes a very ugly heat signature on the blended weld. Honey chromatic bronze hand applied acid wash is possible with sight line welded modifications. With sight line removal, the hosel is removed & required to be converted to a non bent shaft hosel, a long plumbers hosel can be built to the face balance position.

Itemized cost for mods:
Plumbers Hosel - $270
Honey Chromatic - $350
(Matching weights and hardware- $140)
Double Topline removal - $650
Shoulder Rounding/Hand Shaping - $180

That cost quote is insane, not saying he's ripping you off but just insane if anyone was to pay that to mod an OTR putter.

I cannot believe anyone would pay that on top of the putter

you're basically into a tour at that point, and all with aftermarket work

Yea I agree - Hoping this other shop is serious about the $200 total fee. I feel like $1000 for a topline and paint job is too much

Exactly which is why many people just say buy a custom, as crazy as it sounds it's cheaper.

It's the labor and difficulty that raise the price. I'm not sure how much I'd trust a 200 job like that unless they're doing it for the love the the work and effort.

WOAH!!!! Not saying the work is easy or simple, but those prices are ASTRONOMICAL. Sounds like he doesn't want to do it, but gave you a quote where if you accept, he will happily do it for $1,500.

He has a waiting list of guys willing to do it.  Your talking many hours of work to do it correctly plus he has to pay for the plumbers neck he welds on.  It’s why almost nobody does sight line removal. To do it the right way cost more than a putter is worth

Maybe it's just pent up general frustration, bu I'm just sick of seeing these ridiculous prices just because they know there aren't many people who can (or are willing to) do the job. Then the other people who can do the job support their prices because it means they can charge more. And because some have too much money and don't know what to do with it, they pay. It's exhausting.

 

Couple years ago I had to hire someone to paint my house. First guy wanted $20k. I told him that was insane, kick rocks. Second guy defended the first guy's price saying it's a lot of work and to do it right costs a lot of money, he quoted $14k. Third guy said he could do it for $6k. That 3rd guy did a great job. Didn't used to be like this.

That job to do correctly is probably 6-8 hours of work plus cost of materials/neck. He is a very sought out welder/fabricator.  Looks like he’s charging $150hr plus material cost.
