2 hybrid off tee

Recommended Posts

Looking at a ping g440, g430, or a cobra king tec adapt as a tee club instead of a driving iron or 5 wood.

i want low spin and ability to adjust to make fade biased if need be.

im a scratch golfer with 110-115 mph swing speed. Anyone go this route?

What club would you suggest

Ping G400 Max 9* Tensei Pro Orange 70TX
Ping G400 3 crossover Alta stiff
Callaway Apex 4-SW recoil 780 stiff
Cleveland cbx 60* recoil stiff
Biomech Acculock
Snell MTB Black

I recently did this: I dialed a TSR2 3 hybrid down to 17*. It looks nearly identical to an Apex UW, feels better, and is more forgiving, in my opinion. King Tec Adapt and Ping G430 were other options I considered since I don't love woods. I would think any hybrid you could dial to 16-17* would be a good option.

Callaway Paradym TD 9.5*

Titleist TSR2 3H, TSR3 4-5H

Maltby TE+ 6-9

Cleveland CBX Zipcore 44, 48, 52, 56 RTX Full Face 60

Taylormade Spider ZT CB 36”

Done this for a while with my G430 also higher swing speed. Mine is a 3h at 19 standard, but I will lower it to 17 and comfortably hitting 260-280. I joked when I ordered it and my 3 wood that I don't even need the 3 wood. This is a no brainier if you are not a fan of woods. Our club champion 3 years running had a driver and a 2 hybrid no woods. If it works for him I think it will work for you.  I haven't been bothered to go away from a ping hybrid for 5 years now. I had a g30 and upgraded to this. If the g440 is half as good as the g430 than you will have zero issues with it. Cobra makes a solid club, but the new hosel adjustments on them seems absurd, and maybe it is just the driver, but like 30 settings? The flat setting , over all simplicity of adjusting and the slim neck of the ping makes it an easy choice for me.

I tried a 16* Paradym Super Hybrid for a bit, but couldn't get it to work even cranked down. Not enough gap vs. my 18* Ai Smoke Hybrid.

I considered the 13.5* TSr 2+. Have heard great things about G440/430.

My lack of luck with 2H is making me seriously consider a mini driver though...

Good ideas so far. I have an unusual bag setup in that i think getting off the tee is 90% of the battle so im not afraid to use 2 drivers and a hybrid/ driving iron to make sure i have options

Ping G400 3 crossover Alta stiff
Callaway Apex 4-SW recoil 780 stiff
Cleveland cbx 60* recoil stiff

For high speed golfers a 2 hybrid is an excellent alternative tee club option to replace a 3 / 4 wood, I first went down this route with the Cobra Aerojet hybrid and its been the best decision I have ever made as for me these hybrids are much more accurate than a 3 / 4 wood off the tee (provided you find the right shaft) plus they produce such fast ball speeds that you don't really give up much (if any) total distance, with the new FF33 adapter offering unlimited adjustability options both new Cobra hybrids are two of the best on the market as a 17 degree 2 hybrid and both models can be lofted down to as low as 15, another great option would be the Titleist GT2 3 hybrid at 18 degrees which can be lofted down to 17 and it also produces very fast ball speeds but has been designed to launch a little higher and spin a little more, my average driver clubhead speed is around 118 mph.

Will throw my hat in the ring for the Qi35 hybrids - they are monsters and knocked the G430 out of my bag.

The Titleist 818 H2 comes in 17*, has an adjustable hosel, and a weight that you can shift from neutral to draw or fade biased.  Since it is an older club you can find it for a good bit less than new and, because Titleist has used the same adapter on a lot of their hybrids, you can find quite a few shafts out and about for experimenting.

I've been using a King Tec 2h, one of the earlier King Tec models.  At the time I'd picked it up, I hadn't had the drop in speed I'm now enjoying; found the Tec to be lovely in the wind, something that was needed.  The weight system allows some customization, along with the usual hosel adjustment.  I don't have problem with hooks with it.

Latest version of the UW is a rocket.  The 19 degree is a unicorn club for many of us.  17 launched too low for me but with your swing speed it would be deep (crazy good off the tee). Good luck.

I recommend a driving iron if you’re looking for an off the tee club. I just put a Ventus Black HB 10X in my 718 TMB 2i and it only goes straight.

With its low launch the new Cobra King Tec hybrid produces a very similar ball flight to a 2 or 3 iron off the tee but is 15-20 yards longer, more accurate, more forgiving and much more versatile than any long iron I have ever played, I also have the Ventus HB Black 10TX in my hybrid having previously played it in my 3 iron so I think it is this shaft that is responsible for producing such tight dispersion and anti-left ball flight, my favourite golf shaft ever.

I have always struggled with the Ping hybrids personally, they just look like scoops to me and they're kinda shallow faced.  I have a huge fan of the Titleist ones.  I've bagged both the 2 and 3 versions and currently have the GT2 in the bag and love it (18* just set standard, I think you can crank it down another 1* or so).  Off the tee I'll tee it up just slightly for a little more heat, if its purely a hit it in play I'll hit it off the deck sometimes.  Plus the 2 versions of Titleist hybrids are so playable off the ground to me.  While might not be your need for it, something else to consider.

I can hit it off the tee 240ish, off the deck I can get 235ish out of it and its just maybe my favorite club in my bag.

This is me.  I have a new-to-me 430 2h and agreed, it's a rocket launcher, but to my eye it's very difficult to square and way too upright.  Completely different feel than the TSR2 hybrid I have and like a lot.

When I connect solidly with the 2h though, it absolutely moves, albeit not even close to my 3-wood.

Yeah I really like the Titleist (and Callaway) adapters because they don't jack up the loft and lie at the same time.  I really think Ping and TM adapters are miles behind.  My 23* TS hybrid is strong 1* and upright 1* and I play a shorter shaft in it and its absolutely fantastic and sits dead square to my eye.
