No big surprise there.  Kid has to getting paid well from FSU and TM.  Congrats to him.

 

 

Not to hijack the thread, but its great to hear that some kids we know have gotten calls from big time schools despite their size.  No real offers yet, but the interest is there.  Early on I would over-hear from some golf dads that so and so doesn't have a chance because they are just too small.

Have you seen how tiny Russell and Watts are? Size doesn't always matter.

Never saw them in person but they look 5 9 or so and skinny

Yeah, every time I read that on here, I LOL a bit.  Lot of slight golfers who seem to have no problem moving the golf ball with anyone.

My kid is 5'7- 145lbs but can move it out there 300yd (carry is 285+) so we need to get coaches to see him play as on paper he doesnt fit the profile. OUs team, all the players are 6'0 or taller with 4 being 6'3"

Great coach that turned around a flailing program but hasn't developed a crop of PGA superstars like he probably should have. For that you probably have to look at UGA, ASU, OSU and Texas.

UGA coaches literally just sit in their cart and watch the kids play.

to Coach Jones's credit, I witnessed him watch every shot that Miles hit last week in Pinehurst, right up until his untimely second-round exit 🙂

Seems like a great fit, given how they just managed Clanton's pro/college schedule effectively.

If you've properly coached players before the event, then there isn't much more you need to do.

Well, when you get to pick the two of the top 25 kids in the country every year is there much you can do in practice that they haven't already done to get there?

How much of a college golf team’s success is from coaching the team during the season vs successful recruiting?

 

Would Oklahoma State have won the national championship without recruiting/paying two players from another school?

Actually, I’ve heard the opposite. If you’re within one state geographically of Oklahoma, he might find you. Otherwise, the recruits have to really want to be there. Even then, the recruits might not make the team or play much. 
 

For all the “top” ranked/perceived golf schools, it seems more and more the attrition rate for their top recruits are increasing. Just look at 2 of the top recruited stars in the PAC 12 from the 2024 HS class who will no longer on the team (starting this fall).

Old PAC-12 or new PAC-12? Other than Leng at Stanford, none of the top kids went to the PAC-12, as Bracken deferred.

It was down to FSU and UF. UF facilities are just terrible and that was the deciding factor.

Correct. Miles actually preferred UF but the facilities weren’t close to what FSU had and thus he chose FSU. It wasn’t about money. The UF fans are livid but they also feel this may be the final straw that makes the university change their course on facility improvement for the golf teams. They have discussed a new golf course for the teams for years but never done it.
