How does Fourteen name their clubs?

Have known about Fourteen for a while and played a few of their old wedges but recently picked up a set of TC888 and RM21 wedges as my gamers.

Was trying to do some research when I realized how strange their naming and numbering system is, does anyone know the logic to the madness? Am I missing it?

Recently it seems to have gotten simpler (TB 5 and 7, TC 7, RM 4, DJ 5 etc) but even now with wedges there is RM alpha, and how does RM 11 and 12 then turn to RM 21 and 22 and now to 4? And of course it used to be MT 28 and now there is also FRZ. Don't get me started on irons where there are all the TCs (788, 888, 550, 560, 330, 930), not to mention FH and PC irons. Many more letter and number combos, you get the idea.

I'm guessing the letters stand for something like Tour Cavity, Tour Blade, Pocket Cavity etc. but the numbering really throws me off. Love the clubs but. would also love to be able to look at the model name and have a sense of what that means in terms of model and year. Sadly their US and Japan websites don't have great archives on past models.

You’re right, it is confusing, I too believe Tc TB PC etc. and then the numbers. But what RM FRZ etc mean…. I don’t know…….

but really does it matter?

I’m a long term Fourteen wedge player over the last 10 years or so and although when a new model is released I ponder its name and then forget about it. I like ‘em and they can call them whatever they like.

The worst was when they released two different iron sets, both called TC550, one of which is groove legal and one which is not 🤦‍♂️

The higher the first number , i.e, TB5 , TC7 etc, the higher the difficulty level or rather the lower the handicap or more accomplished player they're intended for. So TC7 are aimed at a scratch or lower cap guy and the TB5's would be aimed at higher handicap. Having said all that, I played the TB-7's for a bit and thought they were super easy to hit .
