JPX Forged 925 vs ZXi7 / ZXi5

NZ315

Recommended Posts

Another couple sets to compare. Currently gaming a Corba King Tour/CB combo. They are great no complaints. But I like to try things considering the JPX925 forged or the ZXi7-5combo. I could always use some forgiveness just not distance.
Anyone out here give these two iron sets a try?

I don’t own them but I’ve hit all three, and I really think the 925 Forged are sort of like a ZXi6 — as in, they slot right in between the 5 and 7.

Obviously the soles are different, but performance-wise and loft for loft, I see the 925 Forged launch a touch lower than the ZXi5 but higher than the ZXi7. I also found the forgiveness to be basically right in between.

I do think I would really like the 925 Forged with the right shaft. I had them with the mid 115 s400 and didn’t like them at all. I do tend to take a good sized divot. Which leads me to believe the ZXi would work nicely. And the 925 forged now have the leading edge bevel.

When I was shopping for irons I was pretty set on the 925 Forged until I hit the Zxi5.   The feel off the club was similar for me, but I was getting almost the same distance with a bit more height and spin with the Zxi5.   I have had them for about 3 months now and don't regret it.  Either set is a solid iron set.

Opposite here. Shaft to shaft the Srixons spun less. Ended up with the 925 Forged but would have been happy with either!

I have them both…925FB (5-Gw) and ZXi4/5 (5/6-Aw).  The 925 have MMT 105s and the Srixon have the kbs tgi 100 xstiff. They’re both great irons just depends what you like better. Like someone else said, the Forged are like a combo of the 5/7 in the Srixons.

So far I’m leaning towards the Srixon, higher ball flight, but not sold on the KBS shafts just yet.

JPX come off a little hot for me, but the Srixons really seems like the club of the moment. Need to go hit them.

At a fitting I tried the 925 Forged among other heads and shafts at a fitting. Ended up going with the ZXi5’s which flighted a bit higher with more spin in a Modus 120 stiff shaft.  Pretty much same distance and dispersion.  Didn’t like any of the lighter shafts.

Either of the two heads would be a great choice.

Askgolfnut has some great comparison videos and head to head testing with these irons.

Stopped into a local Club Champion. Looks wise IMO same blade length for both.  Thinner sole on the ZXi7. Same top line. Hopefully get to hit them next week. Like mentioned above 925forged is like a stock combo set. Whereas ZXi7/5 combo great. Going to depend on the numbers between them. Not looking for distance just forgiveness

Zxi5 are the most underrated irons imo. I added a zxi7 A to the set to blend j to the wedges. I think i could play the 7s as a high single digit...but the forgiveness is just right.

More important, they are super consistent with proper spin!

Sounds like you had the exact same experience I had with the same model of shaft.

Follow up post after a round.

The feel and accuracy of the Zxi5’s is superb. Several off center hits only lost a small amount of distance and overall front to back dispersion is excellent, much better than earlier experience with some hollow body irons.

Distance - so far I’m not really seeing a large increase compared with my i210’s. Certainly not the 10+ yards some report for a 7 iron example.  My lofts are standard spec. I didn’t was to go stronger b/c my ball flight is already low and was concerned if spin is truly lower than reported I’d have trouble holding the green. Didn’t carry a Trackman with me on the course 🤓 but no trouble stopping or even backing up a Pro Vx.   But don’t really care what the number is on the bottom of the iron. I’m still working on gapping and distances. Right now the gap wedge is 50° and only other wedge in bag, as I walk and trying to keep light, is 56°.

I also have a 4 Zx utility which I’ve only used of tee on range so far. It might replace my 4 hybrid. Jury’s out.

I picked up a set of JPX 925 Forged on here with C Taper lite shafts - jury still out on the shafts for my game - but the clubs look great, feel fantastic and really perform. Shot 75 first time out with them and they were really easy to get comfortable with. Play at a course that becomes hardpan in the summer on certain holes where the sun bakes, and the lie then becomes super thin. This is typically where I struggle with irons, I was able to go down and get those shots today with no problem...The sole on these just works better for me on those lies than the ZX product has.

Through the 6 iron I think there is only one degree loft difference - starts getting wider from 7 down. They do play a little longer but just left me pin high. I might weaken 7-G one degree.  I also have a set of KT 4-P and  CB 9/P and MB Gap that I will rotate in. Will be interesting to see how they compare. Early feedback is that I REALLY like the sole design on the 925 Forged. Especially for conditions that I play. Around the green the 925 Gap wedge is phenomenal.

I tired both and ended up with the Srixons. They were quite a bit more consistent for me.  I LOVE the v sole. I used to be more of a picker but since I switched to the srixons I started taking consistent divots and ball striking has improved. I came from Mizono 923s and really liked them,  the srixons were just better for me.

How do the KT compare to the 925s?
