One length irons

I'm a beginner looking for irons and came across the Cobra RadSpeed set with KBS Tour stiff shafts. I noticed they come in two options: standard and One Length. After some research, I saw that Bryson DeChambeau uses One Length irons, and they seem beginner-friendly since you only need one swing style with your irons which could help me since I’m not a fan of longer irons. What’s your opinion on one length irons and are One Length irons a good choice for someone like me?

As a beginner, maybe. I tried them as a scratchish golfer and they were completely miserable for me. Anything less than a 7i I couldn't hit at all in the air they all went crazy low and left, anything shorter than a P wedge just went to the moon.

But once again, I've played standard progression irons for 25+ years, if you're just learning and learn that way, there could be merit to them for sure. For the longer irons (4-5) I'd absolutely look at the SL hybrids Cobra makes.

Just me but if you have a one plane swing ala Bryson they make sense but you gotta figure out what lie and playing length.

With double plane swings I don't see as much advantage. Plus Cobra has used some different ways of fitting single length they aren't all the same.

I think one-length is fine to try but those are very stout shafts. My stock 7 iron carries 150, 155 and I can't play KBS Tour Stiff. I play SteelFiber 95 stiff. If your stock 7 iron swing carries 165 to 180, go for it.

If you hit flippy high and right shots they can work for you.
I know a golfer that doesn’t play often and typically hits high spinny shots that leak right.
Cupped wrist at top, open face at impact.

I handed him a one length 4 iron and it was a thing of beauty. High and straight.

I have a couple One Length clubs that I keep around for fun but the long irons are too low and left for me.

So could they be right for you? Maybe.
Could they teach you bad habits? Maybe.

Cobras One Lengths have a very strange lie angle progression through the set. I’d be more likely to say go for it if that wasn’t the case.

You are likely to embrace the idea because your curiosity and understanding of the benefits. The benefits of OL can include a simple setup (ball position, distance from ball, aim, alignment, and posture) for all irons and hybrids for the full swing. However a club fitting identifies when OL irons should begin and end in your set composition. The factors for a set include clubhead speed, trajectory, distance gapping, and the wedges (touch and feel shots inside 50 yards). Many players struggle with changing their mindset for OL and move on to other options. However, as a beginner, you can enjoy the simplicity of OL without vacillation.

One-length (OL) irons and hybrids need to be fit to the golfer just like a traditional length or tiered length iron set. Cobra's build philosophy is progressive shafts and reverse progression lie angles (long irons are more upright than the short irons). I like the Cobra OL heads, but prefer the one shaft and one lie angle method for building OL irons and hybrids. I can use traditional or OL irons without hesitation. When I cannot practice often, I prefer the simplicity of my OL set.

This is a very common misconception about single length irons, and it couldn't be further from the truth. There is no reason a single plane swing should be limited to single length irons, nor a dual plane swing limited to variable length irons. If you have a dual plane swing and you can hit a conventional 7-iron fine with your swing, then there's no reason you wouldn't be able to hit every club in a single length set just as well using the same swing. The only thing that is different from one club to the next is the loft, so there is no logical reason to saying you need a single plane swing to hit them properly when they are essentially all 7-irons with different lofts.
