Maybe, but Pinehurst was probably the best US Open course for him. I get that certain courses favor certain players and styles but as good as Bryson is I just don't know how versatile he can be. Also, I don't think this course is all that different from most of the others in the rota. He hasn't ever been all that great in this event

I do think he has a pretty remarkable scientific mind/approach about this stuff given his background in physics, but unless he can force driver down the throat of a golf course successfully, he will really never be a consistent worldbeater. He's still very good though

It is crazy that even after supposedly designing (or being involved in designing) His own driver and irons that they are still the problem..

I mean the way he putts and the makeup of his irons are totally different from what other pros are doing. I think his air density calculations are a bit eccentric along with other stuff like that, but he is definitely his own person. I respect it.

Take single length irons, they are available to everyone, yet nobody else uses them. Is it a rare case of one man being right and everyone else being wrong?

Couple really nice saves on that par 3 for Rory and Fleetwood. Need Rory get 1 or 2 more before the end of the round and I think that would be a very strong opener. You can tell the conditions are stiffening.

I'm not saying they're viable for everyone. I'm saying that he believes in the physics of them and benefits from using them. In a lot of ways, the fact that he is the only guy doing it impresses me more.

I'm of the opinion he's a great player in spite of his eccentricities, not because of them.

 

I'd like to see him compete with a standard set of golf clubs for 6 months. He might be better.

His approach is ideal for long straight tracks.

Well he did win the US amateur with a more conventional set. SLDR driver and normal style Edel putter. Granted he was single length back then.
