2025 Open Championship in Portrush

Generic observations:

 

- With virtually perfect weather, the scoring is subdued.  If it turns nasty this weekend as predicted, we could see guys going backwards in a hurry

- Forget about great British Open course, this is a great major course period.  Would not mind seeing them use this course every five years instead of St. Andrews.  Most fair, difficult test I have seen in awhile and you are punished equally for wayward drives

- I don't see Rory having any chance.  His greatness has allowed him to survive 25 holes with horrid driving, but that can't continue forever (law of averages)

- Hope the leaderboard stays bunched like this, it is loaded

- Impressive bounce back from J. Rose after last year's near victory (and he drains a birdie as I am typing)

- G. McDowell is doing a great job and the perspective is awesome being a member at the course

Googled open championship this morning and saw Brian Harman in the lead. I thought it was showing me an old leaderboard.

Ugh, the short king is always such an easy pick for under par in pools.

Go back to a 70g shaft , take a bit of dist loss for some control accuracy .   Won the majority of his majors with the kuro kage 70tx xt .   He tinkers with lengths and Versions of a 60 XYZ shaft but never 70 any more and he’s stronger than long hair Rory was. 
 

just a thought …….. now watching all this open I kind of want some fish and chips

Not Harman again...I mean I appreciate he's a past champ and everything , he deserves all the accolades that come with it. But one and done was enough for this guy

Better than the featured groups the people at work are stuck with. Almost none of them are playing well or in contention, with slow play too . At least they could switch to Hatton for a few shots, with his potential to blow his top after missing a 20-foot putt.

Blissfully watched most of Thursday on Sky Golf (via Kodi, Daddylive etc). Happened to be working in the garage so I cued up the DVR copy of NBC coverage to see the last part of the day I missed.

 

What a mess. A dozen announcers all talking over each other. Mike 'Treacle' Tirico gilding the lily as usual in a meandering 10,000 word intro. NBC constantly interrupting its own coverage with swelling music, sponsored meaningless stats and more ADHD-addled nonsense. And, of course, the dog's breakfast known as Playing Through along with dozens of other full-screen 4 minute ad breaks.

 

There is a pool camera feed...apparently NBC are able to pick and choose the holes, shots and players they air. Of course, with 22 min per hr spent on things other than tournament play that narrows their choices down even more.

 

At this point I'm convinced the boys in the production truck don't like golf very much or they're merely bored by it. I can't imagine being the live director under the cosh to squeeze in all the promotional rubbish.

With the way this course is playing today, there's a decent chance the cut moves up to +1. BDC probably needs another birdie after this next tap-in to make sure he's in.

 

Not a huge surprise that when the weather's fine, he can tear the course up.

Perhaps it's the unpredictable weather or time difference. 

 

My beef is that the winner is "tagged" the champion golfer of the year.  

 

Shouldn't Player of the Year or the FedEx winner be called the true champion golfer of the year?
