I mentioned this in the Callaway Irons thread earlier.  Seems like it will be alot harder to blend these sets compared to virtually every other iron line out there these days.  Feel like they fumbled here pretty bad.  Kind of steers one back to Srixon or Titleist just for ease...imo.

Will somebody please teach Callaway how to blend the heel to leading edge as their shorter irons always look strange imo. 7 and 4i's look good but the short irons consistently look off

X Forged look great. Sleeker than the ZXi7 for sure. Nice to see Callaway coming out with more options in the one-piece forged player’s iron category. I am typically a fan of their head shapes as usually they’re not too long heel to toe. 
 

Loft specs make these easy to blend. Even have a 46 degree pitching wedge. Yes!

He said “cleaner”, not nicer. They are “cleaner” than most in the market they’re aimed at, MAX players.

Callaway being Callaway is all I see here.  These irons have been out for a year or more and everyone is fawning over them.  Like was mentioned earlier they fumbled on not having a 4 iron in the max version.  This has money grab all over it, sorry but it's the truth.  So many LPGA pros and PGA pros still playing the existing versions of what they already had on market even when these were available.  I just don't see anything special here expect a one piece forged cavity back iron.  Disposable income must me really nice!

Easy enough to do if you order the Max 2 degrees weak or go 1 weak and get the X Forged 1 degree strong. Clubs are designed for the lofts to be adjusted to reduce gaps. The question I would have is, say I can’t hit the 5 iron in the X Forged. Is the 5 iron in the X Forged Max going to make that big of a difference? I would need to test that. I’d have to be convinced it will lower my scores.

 

If you look at every club having its own job, a la Bernhard Langer, there are many possibilities. I might think of blending the X Forged with the ai200 or the ai150. Or maybe even an Apex utility iron. I think Callaway didn’t offer a 4 iron in the Max because players who fit or need the Max generally would not do well with a 21 degree 4 iron vs a 21 degree hybrid or 7 wood. I currently carry an ai Smoke HL 4 hybrid that I modified (shorter length, 90g stiff shaft) and it basically plays like a UW, a small 7 wood. I can hit some 4 irons, but not as consistently well as that hybrid. I holed a shot from 208 yards with that thing, it has a secure spot in my bag!

 

It depends on the forgiveness difference between the Max and the X Forged. Just speculation as it’s hard to know until hitting them. But I am expecting the ai150 and ai200 to still be more forgiving than the Max.

 

I also could see players going with a set that is mostly the Max and then maybe switch to the X Forged in the 9 and PW. A 2 degree difference in lofts is easy to blend but it’s a matter of looking at the benefits. The X Forged and Max are pure forged irons so the forgiveness they have is coming from the cavity allowing for perimeter weighting and however low the CG is. 
 

The Max reminds me a bit of the Epon 500 series with its deep cavity. I’d like to hit one. I think a lot of players who fit it could very well just go with a full set of the Max. It’s going to feel very nice, no reason it wouldn’t.
