Apex UW actual loft

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had the lofts measured on either generation of the apex UWs?  I am thinking of going 19 and 21 because of the distance gaps.  Not that it is going to make a difference, but when looking at the heads, it really appears that the 19 is around 16 and the 21 is closer the actual loft.

I have the 21*, It produces some crazy high launch low spin balls. When it does spin it balloons of the planet. Based on the launch I could believe the stated loft

Agree with this. It can spin up hard on heel balls. I prefer the TSR2 hybrid as also a low spin option that looks similar, is more forgiving, and plays to the stated loft.

What do you mean? I've never measured mine, but it gaps in that 5 wood area for me. There's tolerances of course, but I've never once thought it wasn't 19 ish degrees. Somewhere between 18 and 20 🤣

They have a 17 degree UW, maybe if you have a 21 the 17 would gap pretty well?

It is hard to say, but it just looks super strong.  I get crazy distance out of it as well, like wayyy more than a 19 degree hybrid should.  I would say the 21 seems more realistic, i.e. 225 carry whereas the 19 goes 255 in the air.  Both have the same shaft.  Just kind of interesting.  I have heard people say that the lofts are stronger than stated and wanted to know if anyone has actually had their UW measured by a club fitter.

I can measure mine later today after work. I never noticed it looking super strong, but I will say it plays more like a 5 wood for me. I think the crazy distance is just how low spinning it is. They shoved as much weight forward as possible, which should make it much lower launching/spinning than other clubs with the same loft.

It can mess up gapping because of this. I found my king tec (2023) 19 degree hybrid gaps better than the UW, but the UW is just a monster and I love it.

That’s your problem. It’s not a hybrid. Yet not quite a wood so in between.

I hit my 21° like I did my 19° hybrid from sub70 a few years ago distance wise.

my question for others, would a hybrid be more forgiving than the uw, specifically the Elyte hybrid? I can get crazy good shots with the UW but also misses do misbehave due to not being  struck perfect.

In theory, a hybrid should be more forgiving (especially the elyte) but its all dependent on delivery, I play an apex UW 17 and a 20/21 degree TS3. I think the TS3 overall is a bit more forving but it also plays a shorter shaft and I use it differently. More down on the hybrid v. more neutral on the apex UW.

It really depends from head to head, there is the general UW thread and a lot of players on here stated they got it measured and it was 1-2* stronger than stated loft.

For some reason there is 1 shop here in DFW that has the actual digital driver / fairway loft reader and my 21 * actually came out to 20.75 *

I would get on a LM and see what your spin #'s are with the UW. My guess is the mishits aren't behaving because the spin is too low. The UW sits on the bleeding edge of too low spin. That's why it goes so far.

Makes sense. When I connect on it I can get it to go 225 easily. Mishits however range from 185-205 and my miss is toe side so a death sentence on spin.

Yup. The one thing I like about the UW is the toe strike doesn't go way left.

Hello. Multiple 21 og uw owner here. From my decent amount of reading on this club the 21 i have likely is more like 19.5-20 loft. I have two in good shape and they play like a weak 5 wood at my chs (108-110chs 158-162 bs with 21 UW). From articles and interviews with Johnny Wunder while he was at callaway he mentioned the stronger than stated loft in the OG. Cant help much on the new model.

I have both the 17° and 21° OG UW in the bag. I love both of them. They do give me very different flights.

The 17° is a very piercing flight. great into the wind and will come in hot and roll a ton. The 21° will hold greens for me as the ball drops in from orbit.

I haven’t had the lofts measured but wouldn’t be surprised if the 21 is pretty close and the 17 is stronger than stated.

Ya, i did a MLM combine and my first three strikes were awful and then everything else was smash factors of >1.45 with carries of 200-215. Some of those being strikes to side that actually held the line, it was crazy.
