Softer tacky grips?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I’m looking for a grip that’s a little softer as I tend to squeeze the club a little too hard. Only problem is I have sweaty hands so I need something that will be tacky enough to hold up with sweaty hands/wet conditions. I currently use new decade MCC and find it to just be too firm as I subconsciously squeeze the grip too much before/during my swing.

Star grips are softer and tacky, esp in midsize.

If you take a standard and build them up, they get firmer.

Iomics are tacky as well.  The Sticky is firmer than Star.  Iomic makes a couple softer grips as well.

Thanks a lot, when you say star are you referring to the star sidewinder??

All of em are pretty tacky.  Sidewinder is probably the thinnest.  I think the wrap styles are a thicker (and possible squishier).

You think sidewinder in midsize will prefer a little more squish than a tour velvet for example?

I know everybody hates on them for lack of durability, but as a sweaty hand guy myself, I think the Winn Dri-Tacs are the best in the business for us sweaty hand dudes 😅.

I haven't used Winn's since HS and that was short lived because my sweaty hand lost a club during release.

I'll have to check out the Dri-Tacs.  I love the feel of the Star Sidewinder, but even they get a bit slippery for my liking in summer.

I know they're pricier, but Grip Master Roo are amazing for sweaty hands.  I have a set with them and they last forever and stay super tacky.

Houston, TX golfer here.  I have Iomic Stickys on my irons, have played them for like 10 yrs, and have never had a problem with them ( I do wear a glove ). I made the switch to Sidewinders on my wedges. I do not wear a glove on any shots with my wedges from GW down. ( that started when I was young ??? ). The only time Sidewinders ( or Stickys ) have ever felt slick to me, is when I first get out of the car in the mornings and the grips sweat going from the a/c to the pleasant 85*/85% humidity. Especially in Galveston. One wipe with a towel, and they are soft and tacky all day. I play mostly in the afternoons during the heat of the day and have never had any issues.

I just swapped from corded grips to midsize Star Sidewinder and thus far I am pleased.  It’s been stupid hot and humid here in PA and I was worried about sweaty hands, but these suckers are sticky!  Coming from various NDMC and ZCord setups, these grips are the right amount of soft without being squishy.  So far I am very happy with the move, but we shall see how they fair as swampy summer continues.

I don't know how often you clean your clubs, but, every time I clean my clubs, I run a little hot water over the grips and towel them dry and they always feel like new.

It's remarkable how we're all different. I tested a few softer, tacky grips, and in mid- to long irons, I tended to grip them too hard. I have been using MCC Plus4 align +3 for some time now. Also, I find slightly larger diameter grips help me to not grip tightly.

No 1 grips are softer and have more texture which helps with sweat.   Only come in standard size though, if you need bigger.

Tour velvet will be softer and decent as well

+1 on No1.  I've used them forever and can't get myself to change.  Only downfall is they are expensive at $16 per grip and don't last long.

Yes.  I have been kicking around midsize for a while and I’m glad I did with these for the softer feel.

I started getting way better about this last season.  I’d clean clubs weekly but grips monthly (at most). Now I make sure I do the grips with the clubs every week.

Bit of a grip ho here. Generally gravitate towards softer grips. Softer/Tacky Grips:

- Golf Pride CPX - A very strange grip relative to the market and I would use these, if durability was better. Aggressive pattern, but very soft. Definite tack to them. Wouldn't put them on any woods due to torquing issues.

- Super Stroke Traxion Swing Grip - Sort of a DriTac copycat, but have found these to be more durable. Definitely a much softer grip than most of these. Not sure how long SS will make these with the REVL releases.

- Iomic Sticky - I would consider these softer, but only tacky if kept very clean and dry. I've had pretty bad luck with these when moisture tends to creep up.

- No1 Grips - Non-pro versions are softer than pro versions. I tend to like the aggressive pattern especially on my wedges for shots that I tend to go glove-less. Unfortunately the non-pro versions do suffer from some torquing issues. Pros are great, but overall pricey.

- Star Grips - these are my new go-to grips. Softer than TV. Stickier than TV. Hold up fairly well with some moisture. When it is hot out, you can practically go gloveless with the tack. Being able to blow them on is a nice benefit and a testament to their tackiness. Playing the sidewinder now. STX is compelling though given preferences for soft, but aggressive patterns.
