Srixon ZXi4 Irons Fitting

Hey everyone, I've got a fitting session coming up this weekend. I get a chance to test out the Srixon ZXi4 irons. I am very much looking forward to testing these. My initial thoughts are, these could be great for me as one whose downswing is naturually steep (still working on getting more shallow), due to the way they are shaped (this is per my research from both this forum and from other reviewers). Does anyone have any advise and/or tips they could offer in regards to expectations for the fitting (aside from, enjoy yourself)? Much thanks 🙂

Just the usual advice. Give plenty of feedback to the fitter.

I have a combo of the 4 and 5. The 4 ywere the surprise of the set. They are much better lookikg and feeling than the previous versions of the 4.

Greatly appreciated; a few follow up questions if you don't mind...

1. Which irons are your ZXi4 and 5?

2. Kind of dependent on question #1, but in the shorter irons (I view those as 8-PW), do you have any issues holding greens?

3. Did you adjust any of the lofts?

If you can, I would try to hit them outside if at all possible before purchasing. IMO the V-sole feels a bit different on mats vs grass.

I have the 4 in the 5-7 and the 5 in 8 through AW
None at all, I get a good descent angle of around 43 and spin is around 5K or slightly higher, and I play the ProV
No, I went with stock lofts.

Everything you mention makes sense on paper. They are really fun irons to hit. Just ensure that the fitter is paying attention to spin rates and descent angles. It's easy for a fitter to sell these based on the distance increase, but a 7 iron spinning at 3,000 rpm won't do you much good on the golf course. The spin will be lower than traditionally lofted irons, but it has to be somewhere within reason and with a descent angle that gives you a reasonable chance of stopping the ball on a green.

Hey all,

For starters, I'd like to thank @Srixon / Cleveland Golf for releasing such great irons. I wish I could say I swung it well this fitting, but it was not my best day. A combination of leaving my golf shoes in the rain and my lower back feeling stiff this morning did not help matters. Also, as a side note, I hate Georgia weather during the summer.

Swinging the clubs, I found the ZXi5 to not be the best fit for me. In actually, I hit the ZXi4 better, but I am not sure if it is worth investing in at this time. This is not to say my current irons (PXG Gen 7 0311 XP irons) are better than Srixon, as those irons will probably not be great for me as I continue to become a better ballstriker. All that to say, today's fitter agreed that, once my technique get better thoughout the future, the ZXi4 may be a good future investment.

In the meantime, I may just research this forum and see if I can just replace the shafts of my current irons with ones that promote more of a high launch (at least in the scoring irons).
