Changing Wedge Grinds

Any experience going from Vokey 10S grind in both sand and lob wedge (54/58) to 54D(12) and 58M(08)? I play a fairly simple chip and pitch style with a square face but with soft conditions in the fairway and fast greens I wanted to add both more forgiveness and workability around the green. Should I expect a big adjustment or should these help what already is a pretty consistent shortgame?

Can't say I have. I've been using "F" and "M" grinds since 2016 and "T" since its introduction, but "T" doesn't get much use. Whether that change helps depends on your adaptability and skill; it's hard to say. Learning to effectively use or benefit from "M's" workability may take some time.

A few questions:

What amount of shaft lean do you use on your technique?

What amount of turf is disturbed in your pitch and chip shots?

What are the bad shots you hit with your 10S?

What shots or versatility do you feel you would gain by switching grinds?

Yes, I’ve played S grind in 54 & 60 at the same time. M grind in both at the same time. A 56D with a 60M.

 

Moving from a 56S to a D will give you more versatility, but the bounce will increase significantly, ignore the numbers on the sole.

 

I would change one of them to start with, probably the 60 and see how you go. 
 

Playing a 56D and a 60M on paper looks good and for some will be excellent. But it’s quite a big change going from what you have.

I switched my 54 from S to D this season. I agree that the D plays with significantly more bounce. My main problem with the S was getting too diggy with 1/2 and 3/4 swings. The D has basically eliminated that problem, but it’s definitely more difficult to nip it cleanly on very tight lies. The heel relief helps, but it’s still quite a bit more chunky. The D was way better for me in soft spring conditions. Now that everything is dry and harder, I’m also looking to switch into something lower-bounce in my 58. Will probably go with the same 54D-58M combo.

I.went from 54S and 60S to 54M and 58M. 

 

However, I bent the 54 to 55 and the 58 to 60. 

 

That put me at 55-09 and 60-10 but with a different flange design and I love everything about the change. I'm a steep chipper and haven't had issues. 

 

I made the change because I play in Florida. Super soft in the summer and can get a bit firm in the winter and early spring. I dont have to change bounce in my wedges anymore.

I'm pretty steep and the D in my 54° is/was great. I'm trying out a 54° in the new RTZ mid and love it too.
