Athletic Motion Golf 2.5 Day School

Their time is valuable and they have a lot of technology at their disposal. Seems fair

Everyone's time is valuable, especially in a school.  Computing cumulative 1:1 time a single participant receives over 2.5 partial days against the 6k, if that's the number, will color that price in a different light.

@fawley Never attended, and no direct knowledge on AMG, just responding to another comment.

I didn’t ask about the cost, but seeing as that seems to be the most interesting part of the golf school to some people, here’s how I’m looking at it:

The $6k they charge for the school includes accommodation and ground transportation.  Thats would have otherwise cost me around $600.  It also includes a year of their online membership which would otherwise cost $1200.  I have no idea if the online membership is worth $1200, but having the ability to remotely stay in touch with the coaches and stay on track is something I’m specifically looking for anyway, so it’s money I would have spent if it wasn’t included.

So that leaves $4200 for the 2.5 days of instruction.  From the small amount of research I’ve done, 2.5 day schools with other highly regarded golf schools run between $2k and $6k.

I see the differentiators for AMG as being:

-The GEARS analysis

-4 students : 2 instructor ratio

- The instruction is all delivered by the guys running the place.

I find it pretty amusing that in a forum where no one blinks at a $6k putter in the classifieds, spending that much on a golf school is where the line is drawn.

Do you get to take home any video, written materials, etc. that will allow you to keep revisiting and working on the same things? That would also add value.

You sure about that? At least the golf school price is a real thing 🤣🤨

for the record I play MG gloves and maxfli balls

Haha!  Yeah.  I’d never spend anything even in that universe for a putter, but if someone else see value in it, who am I to judge how they spend their money.

I guess I shouldn’t have said “no one blinks”. I should have said no one goes on to a for sale thread and says “$6k for a putter- lol”.

I know you were exaggerating just having some fun 😉

my wife spends money on bags she never uses, I go through shafts and irons like crazy, everyone has their “thing” that sucks the money from the pockets!

I would be tempted to, because there is no universe where spending that much on a putter makes sense, if it's intended to actually be used on the course. I'd prefer not to get banned though.

If you get to keep material for reference, I think this school is probably a pretty good value. If they teach you what you need to do, then you can put in the work to actually do it, that's where improvement comes from.

You commented "not a terrible value", so that ringing endorsement introduced the notion of cost, not somebody else.  A simple "lol" isn't the "forum" taking after you - come on now.  If you're that defensive ......

Hotel, pickup at the airport - sure, nice perks.  Three days with Martin Chuck is $6,000 at one of his schools - so yep not a "terrible" value if you compare it to others.  They can set whatever price they want, more power to 'em.

I know someone well who paid the fee to spend a day with Butch Harmon several years ago - totally worth it as far as he was concerned (and he could easily afford it).

They seem like nice guys and know their stuff, whatever value is in it is your call.

Their online membership is well worth the $1200. I’ve done their old lower end memberships and it was very good resource. As the memberships went up in level you had more access to Shaun and Mike.

the $6k seems reasonable for the what you detailed here

I probably wouldn’t buy a 6 grand putter but I might considering we are taking about a circle T with these prices. Those things keep their value or increase so they are more investments unless you are throwing it in the bag without a cover to play. You aren’t going to lose your money.

I’m up in the air regarding golf schools. I’ve been a part of them before and prefer 1 on 1. I think some people like them but I’d rather just take the same money and do 1 on 1 lessons over a longer time frame.

I hear you.  I think it’s different for different people.

For me, the best golf I ever played was after attending a golf school and just committing to work on nothing else but my top couple of take aways from the school.   In the year after I attended the school, I got down from a 7 to a 2 index playing once a week and getting maybe 2 range sessions a week in.

For a bunch of reasons, I stopped playing regularly after that, but I’m at a point now where I’m able to play more regularly and I’ll have time and access to more practice.  I’m hoping I can apply the same formula I did then and use an intensive few days at a golf school to set me up for a structured path to improvement.

What would 1 on 1 stuff with them cost? IMO you can only change so much in a short time, so for a similar amount of money if possible  I’d prob rather do a whole day of 1 on 1 ( or I guess 1 on 2 since they are a pair).

or even a couple 2 hr lessons spread out over a couple months. IMO the marginal utility of additional lesson time falls off pretty significantly after 2-3 hours. The main benefit is more supervised practice making sure you are actually working on what they want you to work on.

I just wouldn’t assume that 16 hours of lessons or etc means you’re going to make the change 4 times sooner/easier than 4 hours of lessons or etc.

their website lists their rates. $5k for half day.

a 2.5 day school that gives $1200 membership for free, provides lodging and transportation is worth the $6k. As the op points.

Id prob rather do the 5k half day, which also includes the 1 year of membership (which in reality I’d prob value closer to 0, it’s not like it costs them anything to provide this).

idk if the goal is to get a good as possible, I’d rather just have my own focused thing. Peoples personalities vary so one of the other folks could be a distraction or hog a disproportionate amount of time. If you’re paying 5k for golf lessons a couple hundred dollar hotel room is basically a rounding error/nothing to be concerned about IMO.

or just do the gears guy for $250/hr who is going to share prob 99.9% the same info for way less money

The membership iirc includes access to videos reviews from the dynamic duo, tons of videos and content (which did cost them the time and effort to make). It does cost them money to maintain the server, database or whatever platform they keep their videos on.

We all see things differently when it comes to services.

4 students with two instructors for 2.; days is pretty good ratio for a school especially when your gettin food, lodging, transportation, gears analysis and 2 days of instruction

My thing is, I’ve never been able to take in more changes on my golf swing than what is provided in a 1-2 hour lesson. You have plenty of time to do the drills they want correctly and are able to send a follow up video in the following week/whatever to make sure you are still doing it correctly. Then follow up with another lesson a few weeks later. Spend the 6 grand this way and get more out of it over time.

The golf school might be a good little golf getaway or something so if that’s what you want I understand.

I think it’s just different for different people.

I’m absolutely not looking for a getaway.  I’m looking to jump start improvement in a couple of days of intensive work in a way that has been effective for me in the past.

I’m sure there are also plenty of people who would benefit more from a series of lessons over an extended period of time.

The school is covering more than just full swing instruction. Including on course strategy and instruction.

Oh, I know. I’d play a nice course with a caddy if I wanted on course strategy. A caddy can lower your score a good amount on a particular course they caddie everyday.

I mean it sounds like a fun time. If I was flying somewhere, I’d probably just book a 1-2 hour lesson one day and same for the next day instead of paying for the 2 day school.

I’m not really saying it costs too much and I have no idea the financial situation of OP. For all I know 5K is a drop in the bucket for him/her. More so the concept of we are spending X dollars, how would we most efficiently structure that to get most results

Well, here's my two cents on the subject of schools vs. other means of education.  I have been to one golf school in my life which was Monte's last year.  It was a fun experience and I enjoyed it a great deal but I would say that the school is not the best value for the money.  If you are trying to get the most bang for your buck I suggest that in person lessons or live online or sending in a video for analysis are better.  If the money is not a worry then I would say that the golf school experience is a great way to go.  LOL like I said, just my two cents...
