Hole in Titleist Driver Tip

This little tin plate that sits in the bottom of a Titleist tip I pulled came out. Seems unnecessary. Can I leave it out of a shaft install?

Only if you like epoxy to get into the threads and make the screw unusable.

Doesn't the epoxy run right through the hole, and all over the threads?

You have to turn the shaft upside down. Then you run the risk of going into the shaft or leaking out around the top of the hosel. Best to replace the plug and not worry about all that.

I installed an adapter not realizing the plug was missing, let alone that there's a thin plug. It turned out fine. I have been using the 5 min set and 30 min cure time epoxy and I use a wooden kabob skewer to apply on the inner walls of the adapter and on the walls of the tip to minimize the amount of epoxy that goes up into the shaft. The plug is about the size of the hole in a shaft tip, and there's a ledge in the adapter that about the diameter of the shaft walls, which is why I didn't notice the issue on the first shaft I installed.

Then you got lucky. Most will use too much epoxy or the viscosity of their epoxy is such that it will leak down and get into the threads.

Y'all using too much epoxy if it's running out the hole or filling that much the shaft. Let it sit a minute and then put it on. It won't run anywhere. And you don't need the head on either... Linev up the graphics and good to go.

You would be surprised at how many cram a ton of epoxy into an adaptor or hosel.

We used to have a saying: "When you've made it idiot proof, you've underestimated the idiots."
