Dont understand why he didn't have an assistant go back to the airport, have someone walk you to the baggage area and make your tag ring. I had a fishing bag lost in Miami one time and did that exact thing - now it took me three tries to find an employee that would help me, but it took about ten minutes after that, oh here we are, ring ring ring, great got my bag, thanks.

 

What good are air tags if you're not going to use them? This could have been solved 5 days ago.

Can still be a pain even then. News stories on baggage woes include many instances where the buck keeps getting passed and everyone says going to track down a bag isn't their job. Almost can't blame them since they no doubt get those calls often with someone angry on the other end acting like it's their fault the bag didn't arrive. Willing to bet Heathrow is also a different nugget to crack than Miami International in terms of getting someone on the phone. 

 

Delta uses more advanced scanning and tracking systems to ensure transfers but for some reason not all airlines do. Delta's choice to use RFID not only makes it faster overall but easier to catch misplaced bags and get them rerouted immediately and is ultimately cheaper than scanning manually, wasting personnel on finding lost bags, or having to payout claims for lost luggage. Still use personal trackers flying with them, but you get a notification right on the Fly Delta app that your bags are on board. Not sure why it isn't the standard since the tech has been commercially viable for over a decade now.

the airport they flew out of (or a connecting airport) or the airport they landed at?

we recently had a bag lost because it never got put on the airplane.. it was 10 hour flight away back at the origin airport.

 

how would ringing our AirTag help?

 

brandel is in Ireland. His bag is in London. You want him to send an assistant to London airport? Why would they let the assistant into the baggage area?

I was going to say, his first mistake was going through Heathrow. And his second mistake was using BA.

 

I don't fly back to the UK as much as I used to, but when I did, I always made a point of avoiding Heathrow AND British Airways.

 

In fact, the last time I went back, in 2023, I decided to chance it and use BA.

 

The fun started on the return journey. They decided to cancel my return flight to Tokyo (early morning departure) in the middle of the night a few hours before the flight. 

 

I especially enjoyed dragging my sorry arse and luggage all the way across London to Heathrow only to find that I had been put on a LCC flight to Korea departing over 12 hours later than my original return flight.

 

And no reason was ever given for the cancellation.

My brother and father went up to Oregon for a father/son golf trip and they didn't get their luggage or clubs until the final day of the trip.  I've had my clubs take an extra trip to Indianapolis when they should've gotten off with me at LAX.  I think that just about every golfer that has traveled frequently has airline horror stories, lol.

Looks like McGinley helped him and he got them back a couple of days ago.  Don't blame him for being upset or for calling them out, it's BS to "lose" luggage for almost two full weeks.  Use those air tags!

Yep, it's impossible to overestimate how unhelpful/incompetent BA/Heathrow staff can be, and each organisation seems to ensure it has 'policies' in place to maximise/exacerbate this. Heathrow is unavoidable for me, but I've managed to fly with alternatives to BA since the most recent time they lost my clubs about 18 months ago.
