r7 Superquad w/ Modern Shaft?

Having recently bought an r7 quad mini to combat driver woes has got me curious and nostalgic - anyone gaming or at least tried the r7 Superquad with any of these modern shafts? I was thinking of maybe trying a r7 Superquad with a Ventus shaft.. unfortunately my TP 282 head is 2,000 miles away but still might be worth trying to nab a head anyway. Might save me some $$ instead of going for one of the more recent titleists since those are the only ones that give me the same confidence looking down as the Superquad.

What do you expect to get from a setup like that? The driver heads themselves have improved drastically, so performance wise you are going to get a 20 year old club with a new shaft in it. Newer equipment maintains higher ball speeds across the face. The r7 quad mini only really shares the name with the old r7 super quad.

As long as you keep the specs the same (specifically playing length and head weight) the specific head model doesn't really play much of a part in how well a shaft works for you. So if you have a modern shaft that works well for you, it should work just as well with the older head models.

The original R7 superquad has always been one of my favorite drivers. This spring when I was going throught my golf stuff, I found my old head that a shaft was pulled from many years ago. I had the same thoughts as you, it was such a good driver for me back then and always liked the shape. Why not put a shaft in it and bring it back. Not wanting to spend too much on a shaft, I got a new Prolaunch Blue 65s. With the mini driver craze and wanting to try a shorter shaft, I cut it down to 43.5", plays 43.75" with grip. I added some lead tape to the heal side to make the head feel right with the shorter shaft.

I have to say this experiment has been great, that head just gives me so much confidence. I would say it was/is a forgiving enough head and the shorter Prolaunch Shaft works well in it. I have no launch monitor numbers but carry distance is very good and I would say it keeps up with the newer drivers. My G440 is defiantly more consistent across the board, but when I catch the R7 on the screws its as good as any other driver.

I say do it! I now carry both drivers in the bag for most rounds, as I just like hitting the R7 superquad. With its current set up, nice baby draws are on autopilot, when I'm swinging well.
