I got fit for a Diamana BB 63X yesterday

Recommended Posts

I got fitted for a Diamana BB 63X yesterday. I want to keep my Ai Smoke Max (9° head with a 2° adjustment). Total length is stock 45.75".

Here were the results:

Stock Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 Stiff:

+-------------+------------+--------------+------+----------+
| swing speed | ball speed | launch angle | spin | distance |
+-------------+------------+--------------+------+----------+
| 99          | 145        | 10           | 3500 | 270      |
+-------------+------------+--------------+------+----------+

Diamana BB 63X:

+-------------+------------+--------------+------+----------+
| swing speed | ball speed | launch angle | spin | distance |
+-------------+------------+--------------+------+----------+
| 102         | 153        | 12           | 2500 | 285      |
+-------------+------------+--------------+------+----------+

We also took out the 2g head weight and put in the 14g head weight. Also adjusted the draw weight by about 3/4of  the way toward draw (I don't always close the face 😅)

---

Not entirely sure if it's worth to get it, I have book money that would essentially cover it for me, but I could buy something else 🤷‍♂️ I don't have anything in mind, but I'm surprised none the less that I'd be fit for a X-Stiff considering I play Project X LZ 5.5 in my irons. I guess both can exist at the same time?

Interesting enough, I've had the ball roll out to 300 a few times on my home course. I'm wondering if this would even get me further and tighter? Idk... Maybe I just test with the new weighting before I make a decision.

That also brings up another interesting point. Would I want to replace my 3W and 5W shafts with 73X? They are also Ai Smoke Max heads. The 3W would be easy to replace, but 5W would be rebuilt. Not sure if it would be worth it to do that.

Thanks for reading! 😌 Let me know your thoughts.

My initial thoughts are that these numbers don't really line up. What simulator did you test on? According to flightscope trajectory optimizer, plugging your numbers in, baseline probably should have been closer to 230 and your results with the BB maybe closer to 255, assuming a perfectly straight shot?

Changing the front weight from 2 to 14 without making any offsetting changes feels like an absolute psycho move by a fitter, I don't think you would find that many people anywhere that would be playing a driver at 12g over standard.

Assuming these numbers are anywhere near accurate, I would say just try the weighting changes first since that's more likely than the shaft change to drop the spin, which seems to be the problem here. But I would really try getting fit again at a place with gcquad or trackman.

Hey @BlueDragonKorea, thanks for the reply. This was using a TM4. My smash factor between the two shafts was usually around 1.48 - 1.5, so that remained pretty consistent.

Good points you bring up in the optimizer. I wish I had taken a picture. The numbers given for launch angle and spin would've been off by 1° and 300 RPM respectively (coming directly from memory); which by that optimizer, would only change yardage by a few yards. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to explain the discrepancies between the two.

As for this, he mentioned that he did this to bring my spin rate down, which I believe it did.

One thing I didn't mention in the original post that I'll edit in is that it's a 9° head with a 2° adjustment. Total length is stock 45.75"

I see you're in Seattle, can I ask where you got fit?

The only thing I can think of is that maybe elevation and/or temperature was changed to be super high if you got those numbers off of Trackman. Especially here in the PNW, I would focus on the carry numbers, but knowing some people around that speed, the only way I could see those distance numbers happening was if you just hit a low bullet that just rolled out, which doesn't seem to be the case with your launch/spin either.

And changing the front weight makes sense, but if the fitter didn't also change maybe the rear weight to be lighter, then it would feel like your driver is a sledgehammer, especially with the length that you're currently playing the driver. For a driver, that would be around 6 swingweight points heavier, which isn't normally a change that people get along with.

Good feedback, thank you. Definitely would like a second opinion then. Although it doesn't feel as different as you're mentioning, but in turn that means I don't have the great of feel 😭

I got a free fitting at the Five Iron in Capitol Hill. Looking for more demo days in the future to try more equipment for free 😅

I would definitely get a second opinion! Unfortunately, having spent a lot of time and money on equipment, I can't really recommend any place in the Seattle area that does both a good job with fitting (cutting out club champion with this criteria) and also has a good selection of shafts. Definitely go to some more demo days and get a more fair comparison if you can.

But I would stick with the weight change for now as I mentioned above and if you feel like your dispersion could improve with the BB, I would consider picking that up later. If you ever find that the weight change is too much, you could benefit from going to a lower spinning head as well.

That sounds like a good idea to me. The next time I find an event, I'll explore some other heads too. I don't mind something different, but want to find a balance in the value. So thank you very much for that! At least I have the BB on the back burner. It's also a good reference point. If it ends up something that is actually a good fit for me, maybe I'll be able to use it across other heads in the future too.

I have the BB-63TX and it's increased my ball speed while still stable enough and my spin was 2400 rpm on average.  BB numbers look way better than your current shaft although @BlueDragonKoreamade a good point about distance numbers being inflated.  The lower spin and higher ss along with smash are what really matter here.  I think you should go ahead and get one.
