*cool experience!

It is all good man, I am just joking around!

I have had the pleasure of being fit at TPI, in Oceanside CA, for irons, woods, and wedges. Every single time it has been an amazing time where I learn a ton about the product, my swing, and how the two work together to produce better shots.

Awesome video, @knudson81! Can I ask a couple quick questions about the stuff that wound up not making the cut for that video?

What kind of carry distances were you seeing on that T250 5 iron?

And then tell us about the U505 -- a couple degrees weak with the HY shows they're really trying to push up the peak height. Did they have you try something like maybe a GT2/3 24 degree hybrid in that spot as well? Or was this 100% focused on the new irons and utilities?

Driver: Titleist GT3 10° @10.75° | Fujikura Ventus Red 6X

3W: Titleist GT3 15° | Fujikura Ventus Red 7S

7W: Titleist GT2 21° @ 20.25° | Fujikura Ventus Red 7S

Hybrid: Ping G430 5H @ 25° | VA Slay 85S

Irons: Ping i230 5-UW | Fujikura Axiom 105X

Wedges: Callaway Opus 54°/14W, 60°/8C | Nippon Modus 115 Wedge

Putter: Bettinardi 2024 BB1 Wide

Currently testing for GolfWRX: Wilson DYNAPWR Carbon 3W at standard 15° and 5W at +1 19° with Ventus TR Blue 7S, DYNAPWR 4H at standard 22° with Graphite Design Tour AD DI 85S

Is TPI really the place of dreams that I think it is?

It’s hard to imagine a better fitting than the one you get at TPI.  It’s the only place I have ever been where they have “everything.”  You get fit with your ball (whatever Titleist ball you play) and they have ALL shafts and clubs they offer.  ALL of them.  Even for me (a lefty), they fit with the interchangeable-shaft 7 iron head, but then when I got the shaft I liked, they went back in the “shed” and got me a couple other irons with that same shaft.  I was shocked, and assume for a righty means they have even more.  They even have different types of grass out in the short game area so you can test wedges in all conditions.

They also did fitting a little differently for a “better” player (which is, I guess, me).  After I got heads and shafts I liked, all the attention switched to loft gapping and peak height consistency, which was really cool.  Lots of attention paid to the top half of the bag.  I also did my wedge fitting with Mr. Vokey, which was a once in a lifetime experience (note, this was “extra” and I’m not sure it’s even offered anymore).

Amazing day out there.  Even writing this kind of makes me want to go back.

With the new T250 Launch Spec irons I was seeing about 5yds less compared to my current T150. So when I flushed the T150 I was carrying about 180yds and this new set is closer to 175yds. But with that the decent angle is at 50* now so holding a green will be way easier, right to left dispersion was much better as I saw less of a big miss left with the T250 LS, and finally the distance consistency was better as the extra height and spin seemed to create less distance loss and that big left hook didn't go 10yds too long over the green.

The U505 launches high in stock form, but we needed to go weak in order to again increase the peak height but also bring the yardage back so it fit the rest of the set. I had my 24* GT2 hybrid with me and the U505 went further and higher more consistently off the deck. I didn't think that GT2 was going anywhere but the 505 shocked me more than the irons.

It was really cool to see you go with the T250 Launch Spec. I felt like you were hearing the siren song of the T150s that whole video, and was shocked when you went a different direction. Really loved how you all decided to sacrifice a little distance to get those other factors — peak height, stopping power, gapping throughout the bag — more dialed in.

Definitely food for thought!

I was worried when Titleist on launch day said the T250 Launch Spec irons have 6g less head weight than the normal T250s. My miss is like @knudson81 ‘s, but worse … low, pully hooks. So forgiving irons with extra loft sounded awesome, but I was afraid the heads would just be too light. Sounds like they can add weight, which prevents that from being a problem at all!

Great video BK! With the 250 LS being a lighter head, Steelfiber being tough to get swing weight dialed in, and the heavier MCC grip, what was the final swingweight of your build?

I didn't really notice the weight during the fitting, I noticed more of that static weight being lighter. We talked about swingweight in the beginning and my current T150 with Steelfiber i110cw I think are on the lighter side around D0 I think. I would expect these new ones to be very similar.

Not much from my swing, other than I have definitely lost some speed as I have gotten more into my 40's. But during the fitting it was pretty interesting to see the spin retention on the whole T Series line. We were hitting off perfectly manicured, tight, fairway lies but then moved over to some rough to see how the spin was and it was shocking to see that the new T150, T250, and T250 LS held onto like 1,000 to 1,500RPM more spin than my previous T150.

I find these fascinating. I just went through an indoor (violated my own rule) fitting somewhat unintentionally just wanting to get some of the new range in hand.  The launch spec for me was too high, too short, and I've got less speed (not in my 40s any more, haha, but they tout those for youth and older folks and obviously that is not the launch spec's only niche).  The T250s in the best combo we found (didn't have the full range of shafts available) really provided no edge over my current Mizuno 923 forged.  I was impressed and surprised with the look of the T350s and gave them a whirl and found real and significant gains and differences.  For me, height was a big factor but with added distance and good numbers overall, dispersion was the tightest and kept tossing my 7i in there just to see and it was really no contest.  I'm still surprised and no longer a "player". 🙃

Are the Oceanside iron fittings generally on grass? I've always wanted to try a full fitting there and even with the new irons (yep, on the way and back in Titleist) I could see finally setting one up but problem was always a little trip out there coincided with winter and no golf for several months and didn't seem worth it, we'll see.

Anyway, always interesting to see how different people end up in what they end up in but I guarantee the expertise involved and options available at Titleist far exceed the limitations of the retail establishment where I did my fitting.
