G440 vs Elyte

Trying to decide between G440 max or Elyte Triple Diamond.. The callaway Tarde in right now makes me want the elyte but I  Like Both. which shafts are you playing? Right now I hit a G425 with Stock Stiff Shaft..

If you go Ping, I recommend trying the G440LST. Has very close the amount of forgiveness that the max has, but better sound and feel in my experience. Obviously it’s subjective and each golfer is different. I paired it with the chrome 2.0 as I like mid/ mid shafts. Tried other aftermarket shafts and not enough difference to justify the cost of upgrading. Never hit the Elyte so no insight there.

Those are 2 different types of heads. If you want forgiving then I’d go ping but if you want low spin then Elyte. I feel ping has always been great on their more forgiving drivers and with callaways tech they do low spin drivers really well while also being forgiving. I play a 8* Elyte TD with a ventus black velo+ 7x and love it!

I know this isn’t a typical WRX move

 

but been a huge move for my game

I went from a G430 Max 10K that I loved (and still have) to an Elyte TD Max, and actually prefer the TD Max.

 

The G440 is reportedly similar to the Max 10K, so you can extrapolate from that.  Of course, these are all awesome drivers and you cannot really go wrong. But I am generally in more fairways with the TD Max than I was with the Max 10K. YMMV.

That's some high praise. The G430 10k is the most forgiving driver I've ever owned.

Yep, I'd still need to give the forgiveness nod to the Max 10K, such as it is.  But pound-for-pound, when I step up to the tee box with the Elyte TD Max, I am generally in better position more consistently than I was with the 10K, in terms of dispersion and distance. 

 

I think the ability to dial in the spin characteristics with the TD Max might tip the scale in its favor, as changing out the weights does make a pretty big difference (in my case, moving the heavier weight to the front, but not like 14g/2g that might come stock, but rather 9g/7g give or take).  A nicely balanced driver for both lowish spin and still very forgiving.  Again, YMMV.

I hit both along with the lst and ended up with the lst but both the max and lst I hit better than the Elyte.  The 440’s just seem like point and shoot for me.

Going to try the 440 this weekend.  Would be coming from the G30.   Hit the Elyte yesterday and the face sounds and feels so much different than my G30.  Not sure I like that.  Guess it does not matter if it goes well though.  

 

The Elyte I hit was about the same as my G30, except for one drive where it was about 34 yards longer.  Only played 9 holes with it, so not a great sample size.

I'd say this will come down to personal preference, as the Elyte TD sits differently at address, is shaped differently and it has a fade bias, where the G440 is different in every way on those, so for most golfers, whatever their personal preference is, they'll pick one over the other.

Elyte TD or TD Max would be my choice. Love the shape. Very neutral heads and I agree with @jeffrey r that with the dual weights you can kind of get whatever performance you want. After years of playing drivers with no turbulators, when I bought the G440 LST, I never grew to like the look of it and moved on. The Elyte TD or TD Max set up better to my eye and I hit them a little longer. 
 

I don’t know why Ping continues with the turbulators. I have seen nothing on a launch monitor that convinces me the driver would perform any differently without them. And no one is copying them, which tells you something.

No one is copying them because they probably have a patent on the design.

Cobra had a similar configuration on a few of their driver heads.

They frame the ball  nicely before launch, not that big of deal looks wise.

I bought a G440 LST to start the season but it was just okay for me. After some

testing I switched to Elyte 💎💎💎. The Elyte TD is very good and I find it more neutral than when I was fit to the Smoke TD.  
 

Today I hit a G430 12 degree almost as a joke but it made me want to revisit the G440 Max. My AOA is up 4-5 so I can be lower spin.   I’ll be checking BST/Ebay for one to try.  
 

Additionally after hitting the G430 12 degree I think I could do the “Thriver” as a mini driver tee option.

Interested to see how you'd go in a thriver - I found the spin profile of TD vs Max 440 to be very very different.

Oh I probably won’t do the Thriver thing. 
 

Assuming the TD is much lower spinning compared to 440 Max?  I like the idea of a more point and shoot driver.  Some swing work has me looking for a little more launch too.  That said the TD is really good.

Part of my problem is I’m a Ping fan so I really want to like it.
