Steel Fiber I1110 shaft flex reco

Hi - 

 

20 handicap trending down with lessons...

 

I currently game Ping G430 Irons with DG 105 S300 shafts.  Love the heads but don't love the feel of the shafts.  My miss tends to be a bit left so I have the heads bent 1 degree flat.  I also suffer from some elbow issues so looking to switch to a graphite shaft that is stable and am looking at steel fiber i110.  I'm in between stiff and regular with my swing speed.  

 

My 7 iron club head speeds are 85.8, 80.1, 84.8, 85.7, 85.0 MPH from a few practice sim swings. I'm right on the border.. Know steel fiber is a bit stiffer vs flex. 

 

I don't love the board feel of the DG and I'm nervous going stiff on the steel fiber and having the same feeling but also don't want to give up any left miss stability help.  Would love any advice? 

 

I'm going to try and find a fitter to hit both but I may have to make a call.  Also, any other shafts you'd recommend I look at in graphite.  Don't want anything whippy.  Play Kaili white in my hybrid, woods, and driver and love it (80g,70g,60g).

Nessism is correct. They are on the boardy side. They will be a little easier on your joints compared to DG. 

 

Recoil, might have to get off eBay. I think they have been discontinued? KBS has some options. Look around as there a lot of options now.

Graphite is the way to go since you have elbow issues.  As @Nessismstated, Steelfibers in general are boardy.  I'd recommend the Dart/Dart V with the latter being slightly lower launch/spin.  The older Recoil protos are also another good option but when I had them in the bag many years, ago, they had a tendency to go left on me if I didn't slow down my transition.  Dart/Dart V and Recoil proto both have decent feel to them, IMO.

Id toss out the idea of my swing speed  equals —- therefore I belong in —- flex shaft. 
 

My swing speed is around 92mph with a 7i and I play Steelfiber i110R, I found the SF i110 stiff to be far too stiff for my liking

 

I disagree with the notion that Steelfiber’s or PX shafts are boardy, they only feel that way to those that are in a stiffer flex designation than they belong. . In the correct flex both shafts feel smooth. 
 

As far as elbow issues, I can’t attest to how Steelfibers will help compared to Recoil, but IMHO the Steelfibers feel crisp at impact, much like steel , while the Recoils feel very muted at impact. 
 

I felt little difference between the i95 and i110, other than the i110 being a hair stiffer in the butt so like a SF i95 hs/x1. I know it’s hard to find SF i110R to demo, it seems like the SF i95R/S are more available. I’d suggest hitting the SF i95 both R and S flex to feel the difference if you can’t find any i110R to demo.

No disrespect, but a 20 handicapper with a left miss is almost certain to be swing related.  DG105S does not have a floppy tip, and I seriously doubt you are overpowering the shaft, causing the left miss.  The entire concept of a left miss by overpowering a shaft is a little iffy, even for strong low cap players.  

 

Number one thing for you to do, is decide what weight of shaft you want.  105 gram graphite shafts are not super common, other than in higher dollar shafts like MMT.  95's are more common, and cheaper to find in a quality shaft.

 

I'm a huge Recoil fan, and this is a deal that's hard to beat.

Also realize that swingweighting Ping's is a challenge.  You should be able to buy toe weights that are heavier than stock, but they are not cheap.  Add that into your budget if you decide to move forward with this change.  

 

My opinion, work on your swing for now.  Elbow issues are usually caused by hitting too many balls of range mats.

I just don't think there is enough information to make a good recommendation. Hard to know how you respond to weight or certain feels. However if you don't like more linear/boardy shafts, Steelfiber i110 is not for you. If you must, regular would fit the feel criteria better.
