Right Hand, Right Eye Dominant Golfers

My divots are definitely on the larger side. I am pretty sure it is just a function of my feeling like I am trying to cover the ball with my chest.

Funny you mention pressure shift. I have a huge tendency to hang back on my trail side, especially with driver. Personally, I do not think that staying more behind it with driver is the answer. I still think the feeling of covering the ball with the driver is the way, which when the clubs get longer it is more imperative to get to the lead side. I could be way off base here, but this leads me to my next point regarding your post which is shot shape. I typically feel the more I am on my lead side at impact the easier it is to hit the fade. Whether the ball starts on line and falls right or is more of a pull cut I think will vary

Yes. A hang back move has been my bane of existence for a long time. As alluded to, you can get away with this with longer clubs, but irons are meh! I have always been a better driver and wood player plus hybrids, than iron player.

I have ben doing a lot of step drills to improve my transition. Not the Kwon stuff, but the AMG drills. And I am noticing a better hit on the ball. But I wonder if I should be practicing a little more torque.

Is a "quiet" clubface through the hit a characteristic of right eye dominant golfers? Old term: Angle hinge release?

Watching that Stenson video his clubface matches spine angle through the rotation. I think Slice fixer would like that.

Yes, generally if they are playing a cut. On the Henrik vid, the passive face rotation is exaggerated because his iron is slapping pretty steep into the ground, which slows down face closure rate post divot. If you watch him hit a wood cleanly off a tee, you will see more clubface roll over.

On the right eye draw pattern, you will see a lot more face roll over, eg, Justin Leonard.

I subscribe to @virtuoso's YouTube channel and he seems to have uploaded a whole bunch of videos on this very topic

You have an awesome swing. Your body is "back" so your swing circle and do anything but cut across the target line.

I learned a lot from this video. It's an oldie, but if your get set up more like Frosty and O'Meara, you'll hit it better. You don't have an exaggerated eye dominance issue.

Here's one for ya, born left-handed, became ambidextrous around 6ish.

I am right-eye dominant, and do most things right-handed, but write using both hands, shoot using both, knife skills left-handed, throw and kick right-side, golf right-handed, but good left-handed putter using the putter's backside flange. I have a slightly open stance, neutral 1 o'clock grip, somewhat short backswing, fast transition, and tempo and I rarely, if ever, see impact, but see before impact and after and generally hit the ball straight with a moderate trajectory.

This is actually an interesting counter argument. If true, then we might should encourage the right eye golfers to turn their heads more to the right on the backswing because that would center the ball more in their left eye’s  field of vision, thereby enhancing the depth perception.

This would also open up range of motion for the backswing shoulder rotation.

I have been going thru somewhat of a revelation in my swing, and it's in regards to my eyes, so finding this thread this morning was good timing for me. I am right handed and right eye dominant. I have very recently found that i have been stopping my swing because the ball switches from right eye to left eye if i keep going, because my head has to go with my body to make a proper turn. I didnt realize that it was switching eyes, as it only ever felt like it was too far and it was time to stop. I guess it felt more like losing sight of ball rather than the ball switching eyes, as the switching is not a smooth transition. Either way, it felt like the swing should be ending at that point. Had a recent lesson and been working thru some things. One is getting a better turn. And that is when it finally dawned on me about the issue of the ball is switching eyes, so i was like ok, i will close my right eye and the swing felt better. But then i tried cocking my head to the right to get the ball into my left eye, and dang, it seemed to make everything work. I could keep going and getting better depth in my backswing, It also helped me get better depth in my hip turn. My hands are higher, i am not over doing my wristcock. i have less early extension.  I also never realized this was Nicklaus' swing trigger, so i am now using head turn as a swing trigger and using a head turn to start the swing. It's all very new and only garage swings, but looking forward to bringing it out on the course on Wednesday.

General question about what's quoted.....in regards to non dominant eye being key for depth perception. I wonder if this would help with toe hits. I have a toe hit problem that does not seem to get fixed in fittings with length. i have to address the ball on almost the hosel to get good center contact. I blame it on early extension and maybe thats the case. But i also have this problem with putter. Which is weird to me that if i address the ball center, my contact is not center and towards the toe some. If i address ball a half inch towards heel, i center contact it. It has to be an eye thing. And if it's an eye thing for putting it, it's maybe more of an eye thing with my irons and maybe not all to blame on early extension.

Anyway, i am hoping this ah ha moment help on a couple, if not more, of my issues, and not create new ones.

This is a very interesting write up, thanks for sharing.  As my eyesight has been changing in my 50s, I've gone from right eye dominant, to left eye dominant, to right eye slightly dominant.  This has been playing holy hell with my putting, formerly the best part of my game.

Even more interesting is that although my right eye is dominant, my left eye sees better without corrective lenses.  So once I launch the ball, my left eye picks it up better than my right eye.  Have ordered some prescription sunglasses to golf in - even if the net corrections are minor (R: +0.75, -1.00 L: +0.75, -0.50), having my eyes imbalanced has not been helpful for golf.

When I have toe hits, it ends up due to:

- Adjusting to a different club that I am pulling more inside (usually heavier)

- Peeking at my handwork before complete

When I focus on keeping my head down, I do not hit the toe.  When I pick my head up on a 140 yd Par 3 in anticipation of watching my first ever hole-in-one, yeah.  Toe hit.
