China related recruits increasing?

Looks like China kids are increasingly getting top college golf offers. It’s even higher % if you include the Canadians (both girls & boys) from China.
 

USC just took 2 players in 2026 from China, and I recall Notre Dame also recruiting a couple in the past two years - same for Northwestern. It used to be only UW, Oregon, ASU and other higher % acceptance schools recruiting them…it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next few years.

Mingbo has been in Florida for years. This isn't a direct recruitment from China. While Mingbo is an upper level player, I don't see him being elite by any means.

Many states and even the feds are trying to get stuff on the books around taxpayer money going to non-US citizen for athletic scholarships, and maybe all scholarships.  No idea how it will work out.

If not willing to put US flag on their profile & represent the US for high profile global/US tournaments, perhaps that justifies a reason for not having taxpayer dollars (or tax exempt endowments) paying for their college tuition? 

 

Can you imagine Canada or China paying college tuition and giving golf benefits to US players who'd like to play there.

I don't know much about this, but I have heard that this is way worse in Olympic Sports where US universities are paying to train and develop people who go home and compete/win against US athletes.  I guess that track and field is a huge deal.  Swimming.

 

My alma mater takes a lot of European Kids for golf.  I have asked and still don't know why.  I just get the "the are great kids and we are happy to have them here" type of deal.  I don't really care, I was always just curious.  It is not like they are winning the SEC or anything with them.

I know for Asia that many American kids play for another / birth flag rather than US because of a lot of benefits - from sponsors exemptions into big tournaments to money for placing in what they perceive to be important amateur tournaments.

USNDP grants and most other US govt athletic support not provided to kids with US citizenship unless they live in US even though parents paying US taxes.

The Asian kids I’m talking about all live in the US … and has been going on for 10 years or so …
