Standard Elyte vs. Elyte TD Max

Recently had a Callaway fitting that got cut short due to weather. Standard Elyte head was giving me very good numbers over my gamer. Fitter thought I need more forgiveness after hitting the standard TD (which I agreed with), so we moved on to the Elye TD Max. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get to TD Max with the weight in the back position before the storms came in.

 

How does the TD MAX with the weight in the back position compare to the standard Elye in terms of launch, forgiveness and spin? We don't have a TD Max demo at my club, and I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it to try and track one down or just focus on the Standard Elyte.

Td max with weight back is going to spin more than std elyte.

 

Forgiveness will be a wash. Std elyte will be a touch faster.

I have played mine both ways, and honestly prefer a heavier weight in the front. But I go 9g/7g for D2-D3 swing weight, rather than say 14g/2g which would have a more pronounced effect on spin, etc. The balanced approach works for me, and this head is still extremely forgiving.

 

The bottom line is, depending on what overall weight you want/need to match a desired swing weight, there is a ton of flexibility with how and where you place the weights in the TD Max, and it does have an effect on its performance. Once you dial it in though, it is really a darn good driver. I hit some monster drives yesterday, well past my playing partners, and I am no spring chicken…

I would simply pick the one you like the look of and then dial in the head loft and weights. You may find a 9 degree works best in one model but a 10.5 is better in another, for example. 

 

These drivers are very close and a lot of players can do well with any of them. The standard Elyte is very nice. Many like matte heads, but I think the TD gloss heads look sleek and inviting. My favorite shape is the Elyte TD but I’d likely fit best into the TD Max.
