Reshafting and changing the tip weight of the Ping iDi easy?

Ping doesn't offer the shaft I would use and they are vague when I asked if it's possible to leave the tip weight out.

I've never had any trouble changing tip weights and shafts in irons (other brands) but I've read about certain challenging Ping model rebuilds on WRX. Is the iDi expected to be a trouble club when it comes to reshafting and the tip weight?

I am a little reluctant ordering one with a shaft I will not use and probably has a tip weight too heavy for a +1.5" build.😳

I don’t know this for sure, but the ping webpage for the idi doesn’t explicitly call out the hosel weight that some of their other irons have. As long as there is no hosel weight, I imagine you’d be fine. But the weight on the toe might normally be a little heavier than what you’d want for the extra length build. Perhaps ordering a specific Swingweight with a similar balance point shaft with math appropriate for your +1.5” length is the best you could do.

For example, 1.5” is roughly equivalent to 9 Swingweight points just by going from the pinned thread in this forum. Be prepared to adjust that value a little bit based on the experience of more seasoned builders. So say you actually want D5 at your build, then try to request an order built to C6?

Not sure they can do that much manipulation though at standard length.

The idi will have an internal weight in the hosel. As well as a screw weight in the toe. The hosel weight is not in the shaft tip and is inside the bottom of the hosel. They will not leave the hosel weight out. You can specify a really light SW based on +1.5" and hope for the best. They may tell you it is not possible. As far as reshafting, and removing the weight, I would not advise it unless you are really skilled at club repair and have a myriad of stuff to McGyver a new hosel weight so the new shafts do not go too far into the hosel. You also will need the specific Ping ferrules for that head as the hosel ID is very large.

They offer a lot more shafts than they show on their website.

Somehow they don't want fitters or stores to sell those.. I am not sure why Ping is being so different than all the other golf brands, they must have a reason to complicate things that can be so simple😳

Have you looked at some of the online retailers that sell custom built Ping clubs? As mentioned they will have a lot more shafts to choose from than what Ping lists on their web site.

Ordering +1.5" should automatically put you into the lightest possible head. I agree with others regarding exploring further regarding available shafts. Only the most common shafts are listed on the Ping website, they have many more available.

Tested with the Ventus Red hybrid. Somehow I usually start fading balls with driving irons while that isn't my natural flight, with the Ventus Red itś closer to the irons and fairway woods. (Another reason why the Ping idi seems great as the head isn't too long heel to toe.)

Go to the Carls Golfland website…they list a lot of shaft options for the iDi.
