US Boys Jr AM - 2025

We are into the round of 64 with some really great matchups this morning.

 

2025 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship: Leader Board

 

The stroke play portion started with around 264 players and finished with exactly 64 players at +3 or better. (First time in a looong time)

 

I believe the Semifinals and Finals will be televised but I couldn't tell you where.

I’ll be like one of those robotic junior golf girls. You won’t have any problems from me. Not sure I will be able to sign up for next years US junior. My fake ID guy has been over worked recently but we might be able to get him to do a rush job.

Pulling for our two S. Ga, players Trace Carter and Mason Howell, Mason did great in the stroke play but unfortunately lost today. Trace birdied last two holes to remain one up. Wow. Was two down at the turn. ,

My son played with him in PGA Jr. League and he was already a rock star at 10yrs. old. Looked and played like a little pro even then. It was amazing.

Why are they having this tournament in Dallas with 100 degree temps?  Long 36 hole day for sure.

Because Trinity Forest is a kick a** course.  These guys will have to play 36 in college so they better get use to it.  To be fair, TF has very little elevation change and is a great links style course.  It is the middle of July and is hot just about everywhere, though in two years it will be at Chambers Bay so temps should be decent there.  

 

Next year they visit Pennsylvania which I would imagine would be fairly humid🫠

For sure.  Used to live in Dallas and remember the heat well.  Chambers will be sweet for sure.

The battle of the ages has ended with Colton beating MR 4&3. Luke absolutely put the hammer down on the back nine.

A Vietnamese in the finals 50 years after his country was almost bombed into oblivion.

 

People's Republic of China, a place beset by crippling poverty just 30 years ago, represented in the semis. Said player having recently won the Circle K on a tough track and gotten accepted into Notre Dame.

 

A kid with Southern Asian roots in the quarters.

 

Big names like Miles Russell and Luke Colton featuring down the stretch.

 

I personally find it hard to nitpick the US Junior am. It is far and away the premier junior amateur event in the entire world. 

 

But then again, Korean and Japanese players have almost entirely ignored the event. Take a look at their representation on the PGA tour from a young age. If one wants to improve the field, finding a way for them to participate would be it.

Just to put things into perspective for those actively seeking rules that allow for the best fields, the girls Junior am may also need rules changed to allow the best players to participate.

 

Of the last 32, here are the surnames of 20

 

Wu, Ly, Lin, Yen Lee, Singh, Ponomi, Kong, Chen, Takai, Xu, Feng, Lumpongpoung, Katchasanamee, Ahn, Rubrong, Deng, Liu, Sriwong and Feng. 

 

15 of the winners in the last 25 years were non American. That's assuming one counts Rose Zhang, Yealimi Noh and Kristen Park as American.

 

Anyone advocating for changes to allow the "best" players to participate in the girls jnr am? What would those rules look like?

Any thoughts why Korean and Japanese boys are absent in the US Jr? Can't be just a country thing as girls from those countries show up in the fields regularly of the US Girls as well as some of the larger US events (though they don't seem to play many AJGAs). 

I liken the Girls and Jr Am to March Madness...there are background and storylines for each participant and their journeys to get to the event. And in the end, I really do believe the cream rises to the top - has there been any boy or girl in recent years that lucked their way all the way into winning it all?
