sberkhous
At the beginning of this season, I purchased a Garmin watch with the ability to track club distances. Ive finally reached the point where I have enough rounds to get solid data. The results were a bit eye opening. Is data from a Garmin watch reliable enough to make ewuipment decisions? Ot should I book a couple simulator sessions to confirm? Attached are screen shots from Garmin app stats. My observations are 1) I dont hit a 5 iron well. 2) not much of a 7-8 iron gap. 3) a fairly large gap between PW and 9 iron. Looking for thoughts on how to improve the gapping for example is there an option (maybe 6 hybrid) that could fill the gap? Loft changes? For reference, I just purchased a new set of Srixon ZX4 irons before the start of the season. I hit the irons, but didnt go through formal fitting process and didnt check distances. Ty_Guy
A 5h will be a good choice in lieu of the 5i. I also recommend checking the loft on your 7i and 8i. It looks like the 6i is also a bit tricky to make good contact, but if you're consistently practicing, that is a great iron to leave in the bag and develop. You hit the hybrids well, but be sure to pay attention to height and spin too. You can eyeball these on the course. Spin will show itself by how many paces of rollout you see. About 3 paces of rollout with the 7i in your ZXi4 setup should be a good goal. The 5h will likely carry about 160-165, making the 6i less useful on the course. No need to feel pressured to use the 6i in tricky shots when you can rely on the more forgiving hybrid. J_Tizzle
Yeah you look to be very bunched up for sure. I'm assuming those are Arrcos yardages, which I would take with a grain of salt (as they're end spot and not carry yardages, which is way more important). Probably would be best to go get fit on a proper launch monitor and have them tweak your lofts to get the carry numbers you prefer. I shoot for 15-18 yards in my long clubs down to 10-12ish yards in my shorter clubs for gappings. starting with my 6i which is bent strong: 205 - 187 - 170 - 155 - 135 - 120 - 110 - 95 - 80 Quote Callaway Smoke TD Max 9* - TSR2 15* - GT2 18* - TS23* - i525 6-U - SM9 54* / 58* / 62* - F35
