Scottie is anything but a short hitter. He’s actually a long hitter that generally saves a bit of power in reserve for accuracy and let’s shaft out depending on conditions and round situation.

 

Even when backing off distance he’s still well above tour avg.

Obviously the stuff about beating him and all that was a bit much, but if you were watching Zac Blair hit drivers you wouldn't necessarily think he's a PGA Tour player, in his defence. He is bottom 10 on tour in driving distance. There are probably plenty of scratch players out there who hit the ball longer and more impressively than him.

 

The difference is the irons, wedges and the shots around the green where he'd smoke those scratch players. In a different era, Blair might have been a good hustler with this routine, going around clubs and beating their best players.

Amazing that he uses Ventus Velocore TR 7X in his driver (same as Scheffler) considering he's bottom 10 in driving distance. I guess control with driver is extremely important for him.

 

 

Brian Harmon is almost 10 yards longer on average, using AD-IZ 5s in driver.

Harmon was never known for being long. He is definitely in shorter and v accurate driving group. Think he hits 2/3 of fairways.

Then again he is smaller than the avg pro by quite a bit.

Shafts are about lining up profiles with tempo, transition, and tendencies more than peak CHS. Some players also just hate feeling kick or loading while others need to feel one, the other, or both, and some are unbothered either way. Could be any combination of things that make that shaft work well for him.

I agree. If you look at my swingspeed alone, I would fit into stiff. However, at every fitting when the fitter puts me into stiff flex, I start hitting these high right flares that fall short. He then puts me in a X flex and I start hitting draws that also go further with the same decent angle.

I’ve met Zac. In the fitters defence, Zac looks like he was one bad break away from unloading milk crates at a dairy processing plant in Brandon Manitoba…
