But there are many like me (I think). My standards have not lowered. Cameos? Um, no. I like watching Scottie pay golf. Really good. Watching his post-round interviews? Boring as a box of hammers. No desire to watch that. Can't even imagine wanting to see him "act" in a movie.

The original Happy is still being talked about. The sequel will be gone by 2026.

agreed the original is a classic and this new one is a money grab at best.

In 2020 he signed an extension w/Netlix. $275 mil for four films. Luckily for him that money is guaranteed and not “quality” based!

is it just me or was the character played by John Daly excessively degenerate?

Obviously these are public figures/"brands" (Daly, Bryson, Sheffler, Nicklaus, etc) and I'm sure their "people" reviewed the script and negotiated changes if they felt it made their guy look bad...

Daly is drinking hand sanitizer and playing an absolute loser when he already has the reputation of being an alcoholic.

Am I looking too deeply into it?

Does Daly simply not care about his image?

I think, even if subconsciously, the image of him drinking hand sanitizer is going to stick in peoples' minds. And it's not a script any self-respecting pro would agree to.

I thought the same.  Daly did himself no favors with this role but I’m sure he doesn’t care.

I watched it last night going in with very, very, low expectations so the fact that I laughed a few times was a bonus.

I actually thought the bits with Scottie were actually pretty well done. They played off his image and the arrest pretty well and he did a better than I expected job of delivering his lines.

It was about as I expected it would be. I assumed (like many sequels) that they would try their hardest to recycle the same comedic bits from the first movie, and they did. The Maxi storyline was absolute cringe IMO. I was hoping for a story where Happy maybe took on today's players with their lengths off the tee, and maybe show how he might struggle against them because his length isn't as big of an advantage anymore. But I guess that's why I get paid to do my normal day job and not write movie scripts.

There were a few moments where I definitely LOL'ed though. Loved the cameos from the PGA pros.

lol sort of - his normal image is fun loving guy who drinks a lot of beer and goes to Hooters.

Drinking hand sanitizer and passing out on the couch - not the best look but I guess it's a joke. I just don't think anyone else would agree to be that big of a clown on screen.

but maybe Daly just dgaf.

What do you think happens after indulging in a grip of beer n wings???

😂

*IMO his part was the highlight of the pro cameos. Just goes to show once again…

100% and that is the joy in most of this.  His Mom Judy is the old lady, who my kids swim in her pool, same pool Adam grew up in Manchester NH.

Listen, back then it was 90's comedy and awesome, he wasn't trying to recreate it.  Instead, the satire making fun and having fun is what this movie is all about.

There is so many good easter eggs, and cameos, watch it again, you will start seeing more and more.

Eminem, Schnider riding the bike, both Adam's wife and daughters do such an amazing job, JD is the cherry living in his garage, even Boban running around naked.

Come on folks, get your head out of your asses, this was and is a pure gem.

The fact they are making fun of a breakout Pro Golf Tour league, using two of the biggest LIV stars is even more satire in itself.

Get over yourself, if you can do better, go ahead.  Otherwise enjoy it, laugh, smile, life is too short, and this can be enjoyed with the family and not have to worry about too much.

Thanks Adam, Torey, and Grandma Judy for being so amazing!

Not a good movie but had some good elements and is certainly better than Caddyshack 2.

The pro cameos are almost all great. Jack, Freddie, Speith, Xander, Zalatoris, and Scottie all boost the movie. Unlike others, I think Daly was a highlight. Sure he plays a drunk bum, but he's also the character holding Happy accountable and pushing him to turn his life around. The surprisingly wise bum/drunk is a common trope and having a guy like Daly play that role is perfect.

I thought the Maxi stuff was pretty lame. I appreciate Sandler taking a shot at the stupidity of LIV and commend him for using LIV players to do it*, but I just don't think it landed. Like why did the douchey tech bro need chronic bad breath and why did you keep going back to that joke? Douchey influencers and adventure golf w/ crowds was a joke enough, did they really need an elaborate hip surgery subplot? It's all just a hat on a hat.

I honestly think there is like 75% of a decent comedy sequel in there. A decent writer or editor w/ the ability to say no to Sandler's worst impulses would have done wonders.

* These guys have to be getting reprimanded by Yassir right? No way LIV signed off on this.

I used to buy a Leonard Maltin movie Guide every other year or so. He is one of the only reviewers that reviewed Caddyshack2 higher than the original. It kind of starts with the premise that Caddyshack was more of a disjointed series of vignettes rather than a cohesive movie and I do believe there is some truth to that. Caddyshacj2 really had no redeeming quality, so I am not sure how it got a better rating.

HG2 was pretty terrible, and I am pretty agreeable to very inane and silly movies. Abrahams and Zucker movies (Airplane, Top Secret, Naked Gun, Mafia, etc) are things I can watch anytime. I like Farley Brothers, Coen Brothers and Tarantino as well. HG2 had one good gag (Zalatoris). The whole Daly thing makes no sense. Happy is destitute but somehow Daly live in his garage. Bruce might be the stiffest thing ever shown on film.

Cameos can be fun but they can't be a movie. I will say that is I didn't know that was Julie Bowen I would not have recognized her. It is good how Sandler takes care of his buddies some that need it and some that don't. Dan Patrick and Steve Buscemi are interesting friendships. You understand the Schneider, Lovitz, Spade and other SNL guys but the Nick Swardson, Blake Clark, Jonathan Loughran, Allan Covert. He must be a good dude.

I like to think he goes to bed with 3 hooter chicks who have Santa Claus fetishes.

What’s he do now that hooter’s declared bankruptcy?

Even the hooter’s down the st in Augusta, GA and the masters has closed.

Last session in 2025 lasted a wk and JD made $780k which was more than most yrs golf earning in his prime.

It was a netflix release.  I see that the same as "released on video" back in the 80's so expectations weren't that big for me.

I liked it for what it is, a small distraction from the daily routine.  Loved the cameos, thought JD was funny and thought Willy turning out to be his caddy from 96 was worth a laugh.  It's the kind of thing to watch when there isn't much else going on which describes the evening I watched it.

I doubt I'll watch it again but I enjoyed it for what it was.  YMMV.

However golfwrx thinks about HG2, it seems rest of universe thinks differently. Based on returns so far, Netflix is rl happy and so is Sandler, as producer.

“film, currently sitting in the No. 1 spot in Netflix’s top 10 movies.

The sequel, filmed in New Jersey, has drawn 46.7 million views globally since its July 25 release.

That number gives “Happy Gilmore 2″ the largest opening of any Netflix movie in the United States and the largest opening for any Sandler film.”

first “Happy Gilmore” also did well on Netflix this past week, drawing 11.4 million views and ranking at No. 3. The film is leaving the streaming service on Friday (August 1).”

Article contains more Easter egg hints and cameo info:

https://www.nj.com/entertainment/2025/07/hole-in-one-happy-gilmore-2-filmed-in-nj-breaks-netflix-and-adam-sandler-records.html

“Like the first “Happy Gilmore,” which premiered in 1996, Sandler wrote the movie with his frequent collaborator Tim Herlihy (Martin’s dad), and Kyle Newacheck directed.”

Newacheck and Sandler have known each other for 15+yrs. This project is yet again another favor returning another favor for many in the cast. One reason for many people being extremely loyal to Sandler, once your in, your not forgotten.

I was hoping for a story line about Shooter convincing the ‘tour’ to use a new ball to roll back the distance so Happy couldn’t hit it long.

Sounds boring. It could really use a plot twist with something about reducing the size of the driver too.

So let me see if I have this right. Because a lot of ppl watched it in the opening weekend and the couple days after, and bcs it’s currently #1 on Netflix bcs of it, that means ppl really liked it???

Pretty sure that’s not how that works.
All that shows is ppl loved the 1st and were therefore excited to see the sequel. Says nothing about the quality of the move or what all those ppl that watched thought about it.

If ppl like it, great! But let’s not pretend high viewership in the first 5 days on Netflix for a highly anticipated movie is an indicator of its quality/likability.

... Don't look at HG2 as a movie with a plot, remotely cohesive story line or even decent acting. Just look at it like a 1:54 minute Netflix Comedy Special with tons of cameo's from professional golfers (and most assuredly would not qualify for a SAG card). Like all comedy specials there are hits and misses. I admitted earlier it surprised me with more hits than misses but maybe a 51% to 49% ration. As a golfer I think it is worth watching for the cameo's alone and without those cameo's I would have bailed on it well before the end.

This to me is still the best take and way to look at the project. No surprise it’s from a career professional actor 😊

We really enjoyed the movie. We weren't expecting any more than what it was. But it was very entertaining, we lol'd many times throughout watching. Not sure what many here were expecting it to be. For me and my bunch, we were entertained, laughed a lot, smiled a lot, and were not expecting an Academy Award nominated movie.

You have to remember that this is the same crowd that lives and dies on every word an anonymous golf announcer says during a golf tournament. 🙂
