Weird that she says she doesn't really like links golf, which is the blueprint for getting creative on the course rather than being able to overpower it with distance.

(All currently at 3-under, T4, albeit haven't yet completed their rounds)

... Am apprehensive to mention InGee Chun (also 3-under)

... for fear of jinxing/ incurring the wrath of the head of Flying Dumbos (USA chapter) @Argonne69 ... nice to see InGee playing well & getting TV coverage! 🤞

I have managed to avoid posting until Mimi on 18th fairway!  Shaping up well so far.  Mimi looking good, Linn under par, Lottie level (but hopefully will find a few more shots tomorrow) and Nelly looking good.

i am enjoying the course and shall add it to my play list for sure.  “Working from home” tomorrow in front of television coverage!

I assume the people who have never heard of the course before that Tiger playing in the Walker Cup at Royal Porthcawl was before their time.

Lottie Woad is an outrageously good putter. In time will be very interested to see how her stats match up.

The scoring is good.

Definitely not before my time. The Walker Cup gets next to zero interest in the States now. 30 years ago? Effectively zero.

Ping. Play Your Best.

Three under for Mimi.Happy with that.  One or two loose iron shots on back 9 so good outcome.

See her fan club (family and friends) is out in support.  I saw them all at the Curtis Cup.  Nice vocal support.

Surprised, is that the case even among golfers who are into golf to the extent that they are active in online forums.

30y ago there were no forums…

I'm not saying there were golf forums 30 years ago but I'm referencing the people who are on golf forums now (presumably into golf a lot as they spend time posting online) and are old enough to have been watching golf in 1995. You are telling me these people had next to zero interest in the Walker Cup which surprises me.

@Jonnyuk74 Just listened to a long-ish interview with Linn Grant, on the AIG Women's Open Live Radio ...

you might like to check whether you can find the same interview via the BBC Sounds App in the UK (with Sophie Walker/ Big Randy from NoLayingUp)

i.e. the AIGWO Live Radio is a collab/ co-livestreamed/ audio-on-demand, on BBC Sounds/ iPlayer.

(i can't provide you the exact updated Link, from outside the UK ... due to recent geo-fencing/ BBC budget cuts)

Oh nice one thank you, will try find it and have a listen.. 🤔

Yeah solid start from LG, although she couldn't manage to keep a 6 of the card.  I will be there Saturday so hopeful she makes it and is in a late pairing. This is a real test I think and the solid tee to green ball strikers will rise to the top by Sunday. Can't wait! 😊

Okay. Totally honest, non-trolling take. Been watching for about an hour now. Gotta admit I can see how Morgan’s voice could annoy the sensitive folks. But her takes have seemed pretty spot on to me 🤷🏼‍♂️

*she is the commentator on the USA N broadcast right??? Haha

To be fair, the question was so incredibly LCD, I wouldn't have blamed Morgan if she told Tom to go sail a canoe. Like asking Professor Brian Cox why it gets dark at night.

By contrast... the World Feed commentators (Laura Davies, Catriona "Beanie" Matthew, Ali Whitaker, Trish Johnson, Iona Stephen) were quite listenable

... even when they were having a vigorous debate on "Whether they were Pro-Hug/ Anti-Hug/ when did all this hugging-instead-of-handshakes to complete the round happen, on the LPGA Tour"

(Dame Laura Davies and Beanie = firm handshake, anti-hug;

They "blamed" Trish Johnson as one of the pioneers of the hugging movement)

You might want to watch in person in a few years.

It will be the only time any of the public has ANY access to view and/or walk Pine Valley course.

The issue here in the states is it has rarely, if ever, been televised.

Enjoyed the opening round. Didn't know much about the course, but it sure looks like it's playing as a proper links layout. When you see players in a greenside bunker playing perpendicular to the hole, it's proper. Lol. Greens look challenging for a seaside layout.

Weather seemed fair across the two waves. Hope tomorrow is the same.

Very impressed by the Japanese players. They obviously did their prep.

Of course I'm stoked about Dumbo's round. The career grand slam is hers for the taking. No offense, Minjee.

Got a big laugh from Ariya's "F me" after her tee shot on the 14th. Would have figured that a Thai f-bomb would have been forthcoming.

Wow Ariya must have been rl been amped up & pissed!

Usually all she does is hit 3w on the ground if she’s mad which is pretty rare.

Hoping you have more LPGA WITB videos soon

In the meantime... we're having to rely on Iona Stephens series of LPGA WITB videos

... Iona might be a gear-head worthy of a GolfWRX collab (ie video is quite detailed) ! As enjoyable as Tursky's epic "Scenes from Portrush" video.

Iona has done a few WITB videos around her own bag or videos of her fittings and they are all enjoyable and very detailed.  She must be a member of this site for sure!!

i am keeping a look out for more WITB from the event but they are hard to find.  I did find a Mimi one from New South Wales win but suspect it might have moved since:

For those who're interested, I'm listening to AIG Women's Open Radio who're covering the Woad/Lydia/Vu and Nelly/Angel/Ariya groups and a bit of other players.

They do such a good job, it's almost like I'm watching it.

@18majors

if you managed to listen from beginning of today’s broadcast… Did you catch the names of radio commentators?

eg I see their tweet mentions Sue Thearle and Flic (Felicity) Johnson…

but I’m guessing Richard Kaufman (regular DPWT) and Sophie Walker (ex-LET) and Alison Nicholas  (ex-LET, not Whitaker) right now…

Earlier on, there was another pair (Michelle Thompson(??) a current LET player & maybe Iain Carter?

And a “Marcus” lurking around, and John Hopkins (Global Golf Post/ ex-Times UK/ a Welshman 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and member of Royal Porthcawl) , and another American who isn’t Big Randy from NoLayingUp) who were arguing the relative +’s and -‘s of the local Welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 sausages 🌭 they had for breakfast.

@DuenPhen what would the Thai equivalent expletive/ exclamation-of-despair? I often hear “Mai Pen Rai”  (ไม่เป็นไร)

but I think that’s meant more as “Relax /Chill / It’s ok/ No worries/ Never mind”

…or as a passive-aggressive “I disagree to do what you’ve asked… but I won’t say so explicitly

@Rapidcat perhaps only of interest to you /me/ other football (soccer) followers …

via John Hopkins (a Welshman & guest on the AIGWO Radio)

… the Welsh rugby equivalent to the phrase Can he do it on a cold rainy Tuesday night in Stoke?

(context= Nelly Korda doesn’t have her A-game at the moment… but found a way to get a decent score in R1)

= “Can he/she do it on a cold, wet and windy Welsh pitch”?

I'm on the world feed today, having just registered. My hugs have been described as "very thorough" and would be seen as inappropriate in a post-round setting. These pros are more ceremonial and courtly.

The quiet moments in this behind-the-scenes = Quite interesting (to me)

e.g. Jenny Shin diligently doing bunker practice & trying to ensure difficult lies / testing the practice sand bunkers ("hard bottom, fluffy on top"  = demands a slightly different technique?

Lol. You mean they're playing out of the same crummy bunkers that we play in daily? I think I could become a good bunker player if I got to play in the same consistent sand each week compared to the hardpan-with-a-dash-of-dirt ones we see regularly.

The weather looks brisk this morning, but scores are low. 'Nice 65 by Miyu to take the lead. Several players at -4 and -5 late in their rounds. The chasers need to get it in gear.
