Golf Pride Z Cord Grip — Hand Pain?

Man, I love these grips. For me it’s either these or the Tour Velvet.

I play quite a bit, but after a month or so of heavy use my hands, left especially (RH golfer), ache. It’s in the knuckles and joints.

This happened a year ago I switched back to Tour Velvet, problem resolved. I thought I’d give the Z Cord another run and sure enough here we are.

No real callousing, just hand and finger joint pain.

I am guessing it’s due to the firmness. It’s a real bummer because I love the grips, but if I don’t get along I guess I should switch out.

Anyone else relate?

I’ve been a Z Cord player for a long time, but recently re gripped everything in the bag with Lamkin Crossline Cords because the Z Cords kept wearing out too quick.

So far really liking the Crossline Cords. They are just slightly larger than the Z Cord, feel softer with less vibration and seem to be holding up better than the Z Cords. I would try them out if I were you.

I wish the Crossline’s came in a few different colors, but what can you do.

EDIT: Just googled out of curiosity and it looks like Bettinardi has Crossline Cords in a bunch of different colors on the site. 😐 Next re-grip…

The new zcords wear out way too soon. This is interesting because I have played them since they came out but this year I am having hand pain as well. I never thought it could be the grip but I have been on the fence for awhile now to try Grip Master grips, I think I am going to order 1 and give it a go.

The pain is telling you something. You are likely getting arthritis. A different grip will likely help, but you should still be seeing your Dr. to get it looked at so you know what you are dealing with. It might be nothing, but I would want to know.

Found out that the reason all my shoes felt funny in my right foot was that I have osteoarthritis in my right big toe. Has not spread and is stable and I use a Diclophenic cream every night to help out. Turns out it is good on my elbow too.

I love the Z cord grips as well but moved on to my all time favorites Iomic Stickies because they wore out quick and I started getting a bit of discomfort in my hands as well.

Long time midsize Z cord user but I am on my third set of grips this year. They seem to be wearing very fast, not sure why. Did not really have this problem in the past. I am curious about the Iomic Stickies. I have touch and gripped them on used clubs as my local SS but unsure if I want to commit. I am assuming you are happy with them? I do grip the club pretty firmly

A cord user here too, they are just so damn firm. I’m still pretty young at 36 so no aches or pains. Thinking of maybe going to a BCT Midsize though for just a little more dampening while stills corded grip. Maybe try them out?

Love the Stickies, however they do get wear spots on them if you firmly grip your clubs. They're on the softer side and very tacky. Wash them with warm water and soap and the tackiness comes right back. I end up replacing them every year. I play and hit the range once a week.

How do you define wearing out, wear spots? Pictures? Squeezing them too tight because of the taper?

Played 75 rounds with a monthly soap brushing and see no need to change them out until I see wear spots on the cord.

I have a feeling guys don't regularly clean their grips. And they get oiled up and then slick.

I mean really clean them, just not a quick wipe with a wet towel.

I generally scrub my grips weekly with dawn and a scrub brush. I play 2-3 times per week and also will go to the short game area and range at my club another 2-3 days per week. So I am harsh on my grips. So between gripping firm and use I have noticed wear spots forming faster on Z cords than they used to. Just my two cents.
