PX 7.0 in irons and S400 in wedges

Curious if anyone uses this set up, and what you think of it. Kind of annoying PX 7.0 wedge shafts aren’t offered through vokey but you can get standard PX 7.0s in irons.

A lot of pro players use x100s in their irons and move to s400 in their wedges. I personally play X7s in all my irons and wedges

I play modus 130x hard stepped in irons and s400 in wedges. Good luck hitting feel wedge shots with a x7

I liked using px 6.5 in my 50 and 56 and then the px 6.5 wedge shaft in my 60 when I used px 7.0.

why easier to control flight and distance with the 6.5 in wedges. 7.0 just promoted a full swing.

s400 always felt a little off

Interesting, not sure how I’d feel about having less weight in my wedges. Guess that sorta answers my question, will just have to buy PX 7.0 wedge shafts and have them put into my new wedges sadly. Thank you

I’m a weight first guy before flex and thought the same way you did. Played 7.0 and 7.0 wedge flex a season or two. Struggled on anything less than a 3/4 shot and never could really flight them low. 6.5 didn’t feel lighter and gave me back the ability to hit shots vs just hit 120 ft high full shots

Rory and Johnny Vegas are about the only 2 tour players that use 7.0 and they both move to 6.5 in wedges

I currently have the 7.0 wedge shafts and I am fine with them, but just didn’t really want to have to order shafts separately/have the old ones pulled when I get my new ones. So was just wondering if S400s were a decent compromise.

Didn’t know Rory went down to 6.5s, surprised they’re not in the new wedge shafts to be honest. I would never dream of trying standard 7.0s in wedges, my mind probably won’t allow me to even try 6.5s just like something the same weight or heavier as I go down the bag.

$-Taper 130 in my irons, and S400s in my wedges. I've always played them in the wedges, and I love them.

I play px 7.0 ssx1 in wedges and love it. Wedges are the best part of my game as well. Tried the standard S400 and couldn’t make it work. It was fine but I lost feel somehow with the softer shaft. Irons are Accra tzi 115 X flex for reference

SS1 might be unprecise here, what PX 7.0 shaft number, for what heads?

We use the term both as a relative reference, and a actual like this

If you played PX 7.0 up to the PW - strait in, and used the same PX 7.0 PW shaft for wedges, ACTUAL looks like this,

GW = SS1
SW = SS2
LW = SS3

We can also use SS as relative
If irons was PX 6.5 strait in up to PW, a 7.0 PW shaft will then look like this
GW - strait in, a 7.0 PW has the flex of a dedicated 6.5 GW shaft we cant buy.
SW . soft stepped once, since flex is "GW flex" used for one club shorter
LW - SS2,,,,

So what do you mean by SS1?...or better, tell us what PX 7.0 shaft # is used for what wedge, since its clearly not a relative reference to your irons, but sounds like PX 7.0 #9 iron shafts for GW, SW and LW?

If thats right, those shafts is "PX 6.6" flex before each step down (average 4 per step,from the first SS1 club, and 128 grams compared to DG at 130 or PX 6.5 at 125 grams.

Yes, imprecise or possibly just wrong lol. Likely a 9i shaft (though I’m not sure). Played irons with PX 6.0 and 6.5 previously. When I built them a few years ago it was from reading the 8i spinner post. (Thanks btw!) after experimenting with S400, 120 x100, and others, I found my way back to these. Seem to work well with the TZI I have now

mainly trying to say the regular PX shafts can work for some in wedges. May not be a need to go with a different dedicated “wedge shaft”
