Ive seen a bunch of you guys' WITB threads and haven't seen any of you use iron covers, I personally do use them.  I was just wondering why or why not you do/don't use them.  I can see not using them if ya don't ride, but other than that any reasons?

If I don't know if I'm going to like the set, I will use iron covers, after that, I like the dinged up look. Of course it makes my clubmaker cringe when he see them.... :busted_cop:

Ohh, I forgot if its Callaways or Pings, then those things never get scratched. What I find crazy are people who don't cover their putters. That's just criminal.

I have found that iron covers can lead to rusting. I bought some of the neoprene type not to long after I bought my I3 Blades. I started to notice a few little spots on the back of a couple of irons that looked like rust starting to form. I quit using the iron covers, and I have not had a problem since. A few others that i know have had the same problem. May not have this problem if I got all the moisture off the irons before putting the covers on.

I always use them on forged irons. When I clean my clubs after every few rounds, I like them looking good, they are like fine instruments and may help resale a little since I change fairly often. It is a bit of a nuisance though. Wedges never get covered because I consider them consumables and they are usually cast anyway.

I've had my Hogan's for 3 years now and have always used them. I walk a lot and the clanking sound just troubles me for some reason. Besides they only have wear on the sweet spot now :busted_cop: . I just think they look so much nicer without all the dings they'd pick up without the covers. I have not had an issue with rusting although I do thoroughly clean them before each round. Because I cover my putter and my woods I just think it shows respect to my irons to cover them as well.

I use them when my iron set is new and I'm not sure if it will be in the bag for more then a day. If the clubs stay in there for at least a month, and I'm pretty satisfied only then do I stop using the covers. I only started this because of the "peer pressure" I was getting from my "playa" friends. :busted_cop:

It's a lot easier to sell and get a higher price for a nice clean set of irons with no chatter.

I NORMALLY WALK SO I HAD IRON COVERS WITH THE CALLAWAY BAG I HAD AND MAINLY TO STOP THE CLANKING. I DO NOT LIKE PUTTING THEM ON AND OFF BUT THAT IS THE WAY IT WAS. I JUST BOUGHT A BAGBOY STAND BAG WITH THE SEPARATE TUBES FOR EACH CLUB AND THEY STOP THE BANGING OR I SHOULD SAY SLOW IT DOWN SO I HAVE TAKEN MY IRON COVERS OFF FOR NOW AND WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

I am here in South Africa and i found a new set of head covers that I really like. They are long which also protect the shaft and they are zippered so they are easy to taek on and off. I just bought a new set of callaway x-tour so i cannot wait to get hoem to try them both out.May still be a few more months though.

The big bag has nice, soft forgings and they get covers. The cart parts here bounce all over and chatter the hell out of the clubs.

I have a nasty set in my carry bag that stays in the trunk for "just in case" games. It's the only set that I don't take obsessive care of. Everything else has covers.

I started out using covers until I lost one and had to go buy another set. Also, I never found a 2 iron cover so nothing I did made me satisfied with the look. Lastly, I play fast so taking off and putting on covers all day got old real fast...

That's the bottom line. I even quit using them just for 'a day' on new forged irons I was 'trying out'. Iron covers get lost and they are just a pain to deal with when I am trying to get in some kind of tempo of the game.

It's like trying to eat a hot dog for one hole, I always score worse trying to woof down lunch at the turn.

Right on pitbull. When I get a new iron set (soft forgings 99% of the time) they could be in the bag for one round or one year. Just the ho nature of most on this site would lead me to believe the % of covers would be higher. Covered 9/10 condition irons = better resale value. Yea, they do look better and it's more 'traditional' to go coverless, but I like to get a max return on 'em so I can put it into my next set.

Unlike most people, I prefer to keep the headcovers on because I really can't afford to get another set of MP-33's anytime soon and I love them. Also, if I didn't use the headcovers, my dad would probably kill me. I don't mind using them although people do you get the look around the gold club. The good side of it is the satisfactory feeling of seeing their faces when they see you hit the ball or post a good score.

Another reason for me is that most of the damages of my irons would probably on the topline and I would absolutely hate to look down at adress and see a hundred little dents on the topline like on my old set of Daiwas! Actually, the Diawas are so old that old isn't actually a severe enough word.
