Nick Faldo's Equipment

Shah G

Recommended Posts

Wanted to let it be known that the putters Faldo used for most of his majors are coming back to life! TPA is back in action and coming to market in 2015!! Couple big names are on board already!!! Check them out at YourTourCollection, I know Marc is working with them since YES! has been sold he has gone over there! This is one of the Copper Prototypes coming in from finishing, another with a sound slot in Black PVD, you might remember the TPA XVIII, it is in production and nearing completion. All new CNC milled product, no more cast as is the 80's!

What is Sir Nick playing? Didn't he have an issue with Edel?

Right around 2001 Sir Nick was endorsed by Adams golf. It was at this time Nick was to create a "Faldo" wedge line. It was to be a premium players wedge designed by him with his own custom grind, shape and specs. Part of the deal with Adams was for him to play the wedges which he created. Seems reasonable being that Nick was getting paid big bucks from Adams and the wedge line was completely designed by him. It is my understanding that once the wedge was manufactured Nick was no longer happy with the wedges and refused to play them. Apparently he was not the easiest guy to work with from an sponsors standpoint when he wouldn't even play the wedges he created! C'mon Nick!

Clubs are all ~0.5" longer than standard, DG tapered shafts but no labels, am assuming x100s, all with Lamkin crossline midsize. Some of the clubs are mint (I.e the mizuno prototypes), others - mainly the wedges have all rusted a good amount from being left in storage for the past few years.. In fact I was about to head up to the shop to buy some coke to try and remove some of it..

Wow, thank you so much for the pics. The Mizuno prototype blank irons look incredible. Do you have any more pics or info on those? What are the lie and loft specs? Sorry to ask so many questions, but you have a gold mine on your hands. The 65 page length of this classic thread prove how many of us are interested in the clubs that you now possess. We would all appreciate as much info on them as possible.

Thanks again!

Sorry, I don't have the loft and lie specs - you're mistaking me for a real golf wrx'er who has a Mitchell loft / lie bending machine. Will try and post a few more pics of the custom Mizunos later (I think there's a 1, 2, 8, 9, S and F wedge).

Just spent 30 mins reading through this thread, got to page 10....

I got the clubs on an ebay auction - I collected the clubs off a gent who was a carpenter that had done work for Faldo over the years.

After reading this thread its rung a few bells - all grips are large (bit too large for me) Lamkin midsize and have a half cord on the underneath of the grip. Shafts are likely S400. The Mizunos have lead tape on the back (I was planning on removing this and cleaning up the heads but seems it should really be left on). Lastly when I put the bag in my car a ball fell out of the bottom of it - it was a precept tour...

Was the carpenter aware of the clubs significance? Did he advertise them on ebay as Faldo's clubs?

Yes I would love to see more of these photos.

I've still got my old Taylor Made TPA XVlll that I used to use back in the 90s, I think loads of people bought them after Faldo's 89 Masters victory. It was a great putter on the 90s greens.

You're right, loads of people did buy them, but if you were a poor teenager like me, you bought one of the many knockoffs that were around.

I still have my knockoff back in England, and it's a surprisingly good putter, but I would still like to own a TaylorMade (or Wilson) TPA XVIII.

Come on guys? No one has an idea of a persimmon mizuno driver with M on the toe? Black insert

Thanks

Is it not the mizuno pro tp original?

They also did one called a world master that was a darker stain?

Now that Sir Nick is back with Mizzy, what will he play?

I'm guessing

Jpx 850 driver

Older smaller 3 wood perhaps a mp650

Mph5 2/3 irons

Mp5 irons

Maybe s5 wedges

Mizuno make nice putters too but nobody uses them

Personally I find my a302 to be more solid than any Scott
