Instructors in Queensland

Hoping a couple of you guys have suggestions as to where to go and who to see in Queensland (preferably south-east :wacko:) as i'm in the business for a new instructor and have been looking for a while.

Both my father and I go to Steve Darmody from the Sanctuary Cove golf academy (The head Pro). He's not the cheapest but IMO well worth it. He's done wonders for both my swing and my fathers (who has a bung leg from a car accident thus inhibiting movement). He uses Ignite video analysis software and you can view your swings at home - send some to him and have him 'fine tune' you when you are unable to get to see him (works great for me).

 

He can be contacted via personal website is http://www.stevedarmodygolf.com.au (skip the annoying intro). Although this website mainly mentions coaching packages he also does lesson by lesson teaching as well.

 

He's really quite a friendly guy and a pleasure to work with.

ok thanks Jered, do u know what swing style/theory that he uses?? Or can you explain how he teaches you a little bit, because this is the main thing that i'm searching for.

His swing philosophies (which will either attract you or repel you) appear to be:

 

1.A player does not need to have a straight left arm at the top of the backswing a little break is not detrimental - as when a player forces a straight left arm it is does more harm (i.e causes the player to stiffen up and have a far too rigid swing) then if a small break is present

 

2. Every swing must be relaxed/supple at all points in the swing

 

3. In order to swing the club effectively you need to not be thinking about how you are going to do it just do it - almost no swing thought.

 

4. All the work is done in the backswing the downswing is just the resultant

 

5. You need to swing the club what is right for you not basing it entirely off someone else's swing

Ok, does he use a rotary based swing - ie, try to be fairly close to the plane angles set-up at address? And do u know if he uses any theories from impact positions and swings like Hogan, Immelman, Toms (impact), etc? Does he make you do anything consciously with the hands? If you can't answer these I might have to go to his site and ask him myself, but its sometimes easier to just ask someone that works with him.

Yes he does use a rotary based swing plane.

 

He has only has praise for Immelman's swing - and if you wanted an example of a pro that matches his swing theories Trevor would be it.

 

With the hands his big thing is getting the right hand into the 'Drink Waiter' position (ie. having a 90* wrist angle on the right hand - or as close as possible) at the top of the backswing.

 

He is very much into feeling as though you return to your setup position at impact (this is only feel as though when you watch your videos you are not really)

lol good, if you were getting back into the same position as set-up at impact it would be a very armsy swing. Does he ever talk to you about releasing to the left (ie continuing to turn hard past impact)?

He hasn't no but I have always been left arm/side dominant (extremely so) in the golf swing, so when I began learning with him he encouraged me to use more of my right arm/side, particularly in the backswing.

 

I naturally release hard to my left side and he hasn't stopped me doing this - just helped my body sync up with the club more so.
