Miura CB1005/6 & CB201/2 Differences

I'm looking at upgrading my MP60s to some Miuras :clapping: , but I'm a bit confused about the differences between the Miura and Miura Geiken models. What is the difference between the cb1006 and cb202 models? Is the cb201 a cb1005 equivalent and the CB1006 the cb202 equivalent?

On a related note, Miura appear to recommend the Nippon shafts for their clubs. Now do the Nippons compare with the TT DG and TT DGSL shafts?

if you go to tourspec.com you can see and read the differences between the gekins and the miurisms plus the pictures tell the story. I have the cb202 and although they are supposedly not blades they sure look it and hit like it. Love them with tour ad graphite 75 shafts in them. the cb are the american models.

hope that helps you.

I have just bought a set of CB202 and they are by far the best clubs I have ever used (I have owned TM, Titleist, Callaway and Ping). Fantastic feel, very workable and surprisingly much more forgiving (IMO) than the i5 I used before, even though they have preactically no offset.

I asked my fitter if it was worth to do a mixed set with blades, but he said that it is not worth it, as they look perfectly like blades at address (true) and have next to no offset.

The CB 201 are more game improvement clubs with much bigger heads and much more offset.

I went to the fitting expecting to get them with Nippon (my fitter uses NS950) but he put me up with KB Tour stiff and they are really good shafts; I also tried them with NS 1150 Stiff, but the KB are much, much better for my swing, as the 1150 felt very harsh and I was loosing a lot of distance. On the NS line probably the 1050 would have fit me better, but the KB seem just perfect, so no need to look further.

AFAIK the Nippon are extremely good if you want very light shafts (up to the 1050) with high trajectory and not too stiff. They are certainly higher launching than the DGSL.

If you are looking fo an alternative to DG or Project X, you should definetly give a try to the KB Tour: IMO they feel much, much smoother with the same excellent dispersion and stability of the DG, but a flight just a bit higher (similar to Project X, but again so much smoother)

Would recommend contacting Ted from Players Edge for Miura's. Service, etc., everything is outstanding!!!! He hooked me up with the same set that Duffy mentioned with the NSPro 850 Stiff, great combo. I know that the Nippon Shafts have a lower kick point and will launch the ball higher than a DG or DGSL which is more mid kick and will have a lower trajectory. Good luck

My personal opinion, and people can always correct me is that some of the Miura international products like CB201, CB301, CB202, CB102, Blades are older designs. The 201 and 202 are direct descendants of the CB1005. The MG comparable product is the CB1006 which is still about 4 or 5 years old, but it is the most recent Miura cavity back design. That does not in any way mean that the CB201 or 202 are outdated or bad playing clubs. Also the Miura blade on its website is likely a CB5002 design as well, and MG has a CB5003 model. I had a set of CB201 and they were nice. I think the 1006 is better. I find that the 5003 blade is best and gives me the greatest playing pleasure. If you can hit a cavity back, you should be able to hit a blade. It keeps you focused on your game. IMO, putting DG shafts into a Miura is a shame. Go for the Nippon or a graphite option. That said, I would not guess what shaft is best for you. Get an idea and try each shafts before buying. It is the only way to know for sure, and to know what you want. You don't want to go out there and start thinking that maybe you should have tried another shaft option.

wow.

the 1150 is by no means harsh and the 202 short irons do not look like blades at setup, they look more like wedges.

i own both sets and am on the fence for making a combo set.

once i get some extra 1150 stiffs, i'll pull the tour concepts so i can mix and match at will.

let me know if you want some excellent tour concepts =)

if you're looking for a premium shaft, the nippon, TC, PX, and KB are good choices. you need to find the right flex and shaft for your swing and most of this comes down to trying them and putting them in play. in general, most people say that px is good if you hit down and take a nice divot. i personally like the TC. The TC's are flighted, looks real cool in satin, and feels nice. the only downside is the high price and the extra spin. i like the extra spin for my swing, it stops it on a dime for my short irons for better distance control.

I have no idea what your swing characteristics are but here are my thoughts, for what it is worth, regarding shafts for the CB202's:

First off my swing speed is approx. 116 with the driver and I carry my 7 iron 180-85 for reference...I have worked on my tempo but I can get quick and my misses are fat and ball flight is high. I play where there is normally wind so I am always working/looking for low trajectory shafts/heads that are penetrating (i.e. low spin). Really worked on the 3/4 knockdown shot that is providing unbelievable control with my irons.

I haven't tried the CB201's but I have played the Scratch AR-1's, MP32's, Srixon 701 Tours, and the J36 combo's and right now the Srixon's and Miura's are doing "battle". I love both sets as the Srixon's are a tad more forgiving and the Miura's feel just awesome and the sole and grind on the Miura's offer a lot help. Just got the J36 and really have not had them on the course yet.

Shafts:

First off I really like the DGSL with feel, trajectory and distance control...I stumbled on these shafts and I really like them and use them to compare everything else to...

Nippon 1150 - super smooth and trajectory is good and maybe a tad higher than the DGSL...I really like the feel of them and I have them in a set of NP-1 irons that are in my back up bag. To be fair I really have not given them a fair shake since I only played my Nakashima NP-1's for half a season last year...funny, that was right before I discovered this site! :man_in_love: :black eye:

DGSL 300 - I cannot say enough good things about these shafts...great feel, trajectory, tight dispersion and no ballooning into the wind. In fact I am looking for another set of DGSL 300's and I have a set of DGSL X100's that I may pull from my MP32's and stick in the Srixon's or Bridgestone's. Not sure about the comment that it would be a shame to put them into the Miura's. I really liked them in the Miura's.

KB Tours 6.0 - so far...awesome! Same as the DGSL with a slightly higher trajectory and I would say slightly smoother. No ballooning into the wind. Really hard to explain really but I haven't missed my DGSL in the Miura's!! That says a lot I think...

Just my two cents worth...if you have specific questions let me know and I will try and answer them...

Shaft feel is very personal and I can't disagree. Between DG and DGSL, I would go with the latter. Lots of pros play with DG.

dont know what you guys are looking at but the 202 sure look like blades to me. maybe for an 11 handicap i have a lot to learn about blades. all nonsense aside they still hit the ball solid and fly straight and draw as i intend. i have lost some distance not much to talk about but did lose some. that's why i think they are more blade than anything else.

Guys,

I have a question that I hope does not goes too much off topic (as it deals with the CB202 and the Miura blades)

I have been playing with my new CB202 with KB Tour S shaft and the quickest way to communicate what I have experienced so far is that I would have neve thought that a change in equipment could improve my scoring and my enjoyment of the game as much a this.

The only problem I am experiencing is with the Pitching wedge and (to a lesser degree) the 9 iron. I hit every other club perfectly and even on mishit the ball tend to go exactly on the same direction and same total distance: My mishit is normally a thin shot (probably because the set is 1" shorter than my previous one, so I need to get accoustomed) and when I thin the ball it flies a bit lower, rolls more, but ends up more or less on target (if there are no bunkers on the way...). To me the CB202 are by far the most forgiving clubs I have ever had, even though I was afraid they would be too difficult for me (I play in the mid 80s)

The only club I mishit in most occasion is the PW (and sometimes the 9 iron), but even when I hit it solid, my total distance is the same as my 51* gap wedge (about 110-115 yds). This is very akward: I was hitting my previous Ping i5 PW 125-135 yds and with the rest of the set the new Miura are 1/2 to 3/4 club longer than the Ping (I hit the Miura 8 iron 150yds).

I am really struggling to find a rational explaination, as the PW is 4* stronger than my GW and 1" longer, so it should go 15-20 yds longer, but I keep trying and trying and they just go the same distance.

Any possible explaination? I am even thinking of trying the Miura blades for PW and 9 iron to see what happens.

Any input would be much appreciated

I also play the cb201 with nspro850 and I have the same problem with the PW which at time creates a distance gap or at least inconsistency as a scoring club. Being a mid handicapper, I would naturally assume is my swing rather than the clubs, since every other iron in the set is just fine except the PW. It could very well be the offset of the Miura PW (you can see at address) that makes it a bit more difficult to 'trap' the shot (creating more loft) unlike the longer irons (using one's normal swing). I dont know the real reason but just to let you know, you are not alone on this.
