Help me pick an Ipod

Okay, I thought I could hold off, I thought I could make it through. Everyone around me has an Ipod, it's sickening. I never saw the reason, just a lazy way to avoid switching CDs in a CD player. I thought I'd be okay with switching CDs every now and then. I could handle a few skips here and there. But, today...today, I've decided to cross over from the CD player to the Ipod. It's a very sad story, but it must be told...

 

Today on my way home from school, I realized I was sick of listening to Eminem for 5 days straight without changing the CD. So, I figured, Kanye West's late registration was about to find it's Nirvana again with me and my ears. So, I whip out the CD case, take out Eminem, and put it back into it's place in the case. I go to the front slot to pull out my Kanye, my favorite CD to date. By now, I'm ready to rock out (or rap out, lol) to the songs. Then, I notice something... A chip in the edge of the CD. Now, I'm shaking. I figured, okay, no big deal, until I turned it over. The CD was cracked from edge to edge, barely together. I just sat there speechless looking at it. Then I realized it was time for an Ipod. As much as I didn't want to give in to the latest craze, I had to for this reason.

 

My birthday is coming up, and I want the new video Ipod that holds 5,000 songs. Now, it seems the hardest part about buying one of these things is to pick the right color. Black doesn't show dirt, but shows scratches easier than white, and white seems to get dirty on that circular thing over time. So, please help me pick the right color!

I would recommend the black one. Even though I have a white one, black is really cool looking. You might want to go to an electronic store to check out the colors because the pictures online don't do the iPods justice. When you finally make your choice, order it through ipod.com. You get a free engraving of whatever you want on the back and free shipping! Plus, it might be hard to find them in the stores.

Thanks. I'm not going to use it for videos persay, just to listen to music. Yeah, I wasn't even thinking Nano because they only hold 1000 songs, and for 50 bucks extra you can get 5000 songs.

 

I think I'm going to go with black. People who have the white ones say that the white become an off white over time. Thanks for the info and links.

I'm going to cast a dissenting (and apparently tie-breaking at press time) vote and say white. As with cars, high-gloss black is terrible with scratches and shows dirt/smudges and the iPods are, if anything, scratch-prone. The white does "cream" a little, but is only noticible when sat next to a brand new one. Either way, you're more likely to "pick a new iPod" before it gets too discolored.

Plus iPods are made to be white. :birthday:

I have a black video iPod with a black case, and I think it looks good. flomarilius is right that video playback really eats battery life, but in practice I still tend to use mine for music and podcasts, and doing that the battery life is excellent, much better than the older iPods, even when those were new.

 

a little threadjack here but if your ipod freezes and u have to reset it, do u lose all your music and/or videos?...or do u just have to export the music from your computer back to your ipod, etc.? thanks

I have the black and it looks amazing, the only downside is it scratches easily. But my vote definitely goes with the black

I've never had the problem, but I'd guess you would just reload from your computer.

 

As for colors..go for the black one. I love my black one. But then again...I've got a non video white one too. I've just got to find some videos other then the "Happy Tree Family" to load in there. :blink:

 

 

By the way. Shure ear plugs are the only way you should be listening to your Ipod. :)

i use a creative nano plus 1Gb and love it. small has lots of color choices and runs for weeks on one AAA battery. also pretty good price cause you dont pay the ipod marketing markup. I used the money i saved to buy Shure EC3 headphones that have never come out while practicing in the 9 months ive had them.

i use a creative nano plus 1Gb and love it. small has lots of color choices and runs for weeks on one AAA battery. also pretty good price cause you dont pay the ipod marketing markup. I used the money i saved to buy Shure EC3 headphones that have never come out while practicing in the 9 months ive had them.

If it freezes up, you hold down the menu button and the center button at the same time. This will reset your ipod. All of the content will still be on it. I've only had to do that about 5 times and I've had mine for about 5 years.

I voted black. I have both colors and the white does dirty, but you can lock the wheel and clean it, no problem. The black really doesn't show scratches too bad, I usually have my ipods in a case.

 

One thing I would recommend is a FM transmitter for your car, if your radio doesn't have an ipod connection. I have the one from Monster Cable, never have a problem with reception and it has presets for 3 channels.
