and the Woods/Driver

With the help of the Slice's Encyclopedia Texarkana (the finest instructional encyclical I have come across), two mornings of hard, focused practice a week (not bad for a guy with a 60 hour work week, and two young kids), the 9 to 3 drill and a renewed focus on grip and setup - I am finally hitting my scoring clubs close to the way I want to. I have certainly never felt this combination of compactness, power and compression before.

My on-course problem, however, now lies with the long clubs. With driver - I think I still revert to my old, slingy swing - misses still are blocks and push fades, with an occasional mongo hook. If I really bust hard to the left side I'll hit a pull-y but straight drive - but it freaks me out a little to feel like I'm swinging that hard to the left (like I'm going to pull the ball off the face of the earth left). Out of an open stance, I could probably learn to live with that pulled drive, but don't trust it.

With the three wood - I persist in hitting the seem, kinda weakish fade to slice - esp. off the deck.

Diangosis: probably still casting at some times (part. with the 3 wood) and getting stuck with the driver.

Asuming that the irons and wedges are going pretty nicely - is it simply a setup tweak to get the woods going as strongly, or is this all in my head?

Any thoughts on taking the rotational swing to the woods and driver woudl be greatly appreciated.

This is a tough one for me also. But it has gotten sooo much better. Set up is key, and remembering that you still have to stay connected through the entire swing and not let your inner (lets kill this thing) take over. Its going to feel like a very short swing with your arms and shoulder working together, but it won't be any less powerful (infact my swing speed is sooo much higher now its scary). Set up is key, if you've read the file i'm sure you know that (and if you don't ask and one of us will explain). Video would help also.

Ditto. The biggest problem I find is that halfway through the round, you start beaming with confidence and you get over-agrressive and the old swing rears its ugly head. With the shorter irons I find I can get cutesy and play little dinky 9-3 swings, with good success. But with the longer irons and woods I can't do that- probably because I practice mainly with an 8 iron and SW and the longer irons don't get as much work.

 

Anti hooking your clubs wil help also. Yesterday I played my r7 TP with max weights (F3 swingweight) tipped to an X. I aimed left tried to hit a straight shot and hit pretty little fades. Same thing with my hybrid 18* Adams, Aldila 95gr X shaft. That one I get a little 2yard draw. But I do swing aggressively with those clubs as well as the longer irons.

I might just not be used to getting that far back into my left side with the driver - results are definitely best when I feel I like I am swinging hard - but that is probably really just swinging "hard left and around" -- with passive hands there should be no risk off pulling the ball off the reservation -- the only risk is if I cast the club a little bit while swinging "hard left" with the driver the result is going to be a monster slice.

 

Maybe it's time to do some 9-3's with the driver and build the swing back up to full? anyone do that? I think Slicefixer calls its a "chip driver"

 

Looking at what I think is footage of Slicefixer on youtube with a driver drives home how much further back the weight sets up than you think, but how the pivot stell stays left. That's the feeling I've gotta ingrain.
