Sirius vs. XM: Which one and y?

XM came in our GM vehicle. It has the PGA tour and MLB as well as college sports. It works very well for me. I haven't tried Sirius so I don't know how it stacks up against XM.

I am an XM guy. Wife got it for me October of 04 when Opie and Anhtony went on. I have never used Sirius so I am hot knowlegable to what they have/don't have. XM is great. The PGA channel is good, although listening to tournament coverage is not my preferred way to catch an tourney! But Sirius has that same problem with the NFL I think. Seriously (no pun intended) as an NFL fan, I make sure I am home on my couch to watch games, not running around in my car! IMO, O&A are funnier than Stern. Stern kind of monopolizes his show and it seems like the rest of the crew is there to either feed his ego or be ridiculed. O&A seem to have more of a conversation about recent events like friends would in a bar or such. Beyond the different "shock jocks" each service has, I really don't see much difference.

XM all the way!!! O&A are a better listen than Howie. Sirius does not have the pga channel. A lot of weekends I am away from TV and can catch up with the tour on XM. Look at the sub's. # XM over 6Mill., I think :birthday:

I prefer XM. I think that XM has more of a selection than Sirius does. Only thing Sirius has going for it is the NFL and Howard Stern. Other than those two I have heard their music selection isn't as good as XM's.

XM Pluses - Golf, MLB.

 

They are merging anyway and it will all be the same soon.

Sirius is awesome, mainly because of Stern. I have barely missed a show since he started on Sirius - it is 100% better than anything he had done on terrestial radio IMO. It is amazing how pervasive he is - I was recently dining in Perth, Australia with some good friends, and around the dinner table were 2 Aussies, a swede, several English, a French and a Middle Easterner......and they all listen to him. Very surprising.

 

If he ain't your cup of tea, then the selection of music is pretty awesome, though it would probably be comparable to XM.

 

Whichever it is, it beats the hell out of radio, which I cant stand, mainly bc of the commercials.

I had a free trial of XM in my car when bought it and thought it was good. I have had Sirius since Stern moved to it and listen every day on my way to work. I think XM has better music, but Sirius has better comedy. I believe that at some point this year they will merge and we will be able to pick and choose what channels you want to pay for. I can wait for this because I would like the XM golf and music.

But Sirius has waaaaaay better music channels. Classic Vinyl. That's all you ever need.

I've got both and prefer Sirius. The Sirius channels I listen to are Howard Stern, The Foxxhole, Rawdog Comedy, and backspin (oldschool rap/r&b).

XM is great if you are buying a new car because so many car companies have an XM package

 

Sirius is great for the channels

 

But I have XM for the PGA channel, and it also came with my Nissan

hopefully this is all unnecessary and they merge. in the meantime i vote sirius. have it, love it, can't live w/o it. howard is much better than on regular radio, the music selection is fantastic, and the online access is great.

 

also consider the hardware available. not sure about xm, but sirius has a portable model (stilletto) that allows recording and wifi connections. if they merge, the only question that will matter is what hardware you bought.

Im speaking from owning both, and sirius all the way!! they have much better music selection imo, have stern and 2 other shows on his channels that are great, including scott ferrell who does a 4 hour sports show @ night, unlike any other sports show you've ever heard. I had xm for 6 months, and found myself never using it a couple months in.. go w/sirius, wont be dissappointed

Dare I say it, the Stern affect resulted in a 5% differential in favor of Sirius? Several years ago, XM was the market name, with Sirius a mere blip on their radar......
