What happened to the Golf Channel?

I used to like the Golf Channel because of the exposure to all the great golf instruction and instuctors. I stayed home the last few days and the programs were mostly infomercials. One infomercial was a magic charm called a QLink that could help you play better golf. There has also been the constant reruns of the Big Breaks. I feel like I need a break from the the Big Break! When I see those reruns I run. Mabey someone will start another golf network which truly is 24 hours of golf.

I think now that they're going to have exclusive cable rights to the PGA, Champions, and Nationwide Tours we'll be seeing some more golf. Some days could be crazy like you could have Euro Tour early morning and then PGA or Nationwide in the afternoon! This will probably fill the coffers a bit and relieve them of some of those infomercials. Keep in mind, that those infomercials help them with their other programming by paying the bills. Any startup channel would probably end up doing this.

I think a lot of people watch BB because they think hey I can beat some of these guys. So they almost are living out a fantasy in a sense.

Golf channel? They don't even include it in the TV listings here anymore. I invarably forget to watch it. Every time I surf by it, there is some infomercial or re-run so it's almost non-watchable anymore for me.

Agreed.....The Golf Channel or infomercial channel really has regressed. I don't know who they are targeting but I too have lost interest. Bring back Peter Kessler if you need to, and stop with the fluff.

ya its gone drastically downhill.theres only so much exposure to the merits of the 'Northwestern Pro Plus 10' i can take :)

I agree with the majority here. I like BB but they completely overkill the reruns. Between the info-mercials and the reruns it has gone way downhill. I also think they could spice up BB a bit by mixing it up a bit. For example the celebrity BB always has the glass breaking challenge. While it was fun to watch the first time its kind of old now. Come up with some fresh ideas instead of the same ol, same ol...

The Golf Channel is quickly running out of stories. Most of the footage they have is old. Hopefully with the Daly Planet they will gain some fans back. I really think they need to have a few more hours devoted to equipment and WITB.

 

Here is my dream line up:

 

5-6 Golf News

6-7 Golf Instruction

7-8 Equipment

8-9 Daly Planet

9-10 WITB

Yes, the Golf Channel sure has gone down in quality. I think it started with the BB which was okay for a while but getting pretty old now. I used to watch it regularly but now I just surf and see what's on it and usually pass it for something else. Pretty Sad.

Unfortunately these changes really won't kick in until 2007.

 

What some of the posters have to keep in mind that we really are just starting a new golf season. I'm sure as the Nationwide, European and Seniors tours seasons get into high gear they'll be more tournament coverage on the Golf Channel and less infomericials.

The really do need to do something different between all these new shows about the pros(daly planet, the natile gulbis show),the bagzillion big break re-runs, and the infomercials its getting really boring. I usually only watch on monday nights or when they have golf on.They have 4 different tours there going to be brodcasting this week and there is no pga. They need to have way more insrution,golf central,and golf on.

My favorite is playing lessons from the pros. Unfortunately they don't make enough new episodes.

I think they should add a clubmakers workshop show and have our own infamous Joe Kwok host it. I would never miss an episode. :)
