Anyone familliar with NEMACOLIN in Pennsylvania ?

I voted to go back to Hilton Head for the family vacation get together but was out voted in favor of Nemacolin Resort in Western Pennsylvania.

I've looked over their web site and other than the fact that it looks ghastly expensive it appears to be real nice place.

I would love to get some feed back from anyone familiar with the two courses there.

It's a first class resort. That said be prepared to spend your whole time at the resort as there is not much entertainment or other dining options too close by. The resort has several different restaurants. As for the courses I can only speak to Mystic Rock. It is a great Pete Dye desgin. It can be very tough, but with the right tees you have a chance to do well. As you probably know this is the course the 84 Lumber was played on for several years. So it has top notch ammenities.

Is this a family vacation or couples getaway? That could make a difference. The wife might enjoy the spa, they do have some kids activiites planned and also activities the family can do together. Hilton Head might have been a better choice for the family due to the beach and all, I'm curious who did the voting, the wife must have carried a big vote as I can't imagine kids knowing anything about it or voting for it over a beach.

In any case have a good trip and enjoy the golf.

I've been there twice (ex's fam is from Hopwood, PA) and it's a very nice place. I went to the 84 Lumber Classic the final year it was played. As was mentioned before, there is nothing to do outside of the resort in that area. Might be some fishing?

I haven't played the course but the resort is fantastic. Great spa if your wife is into that stuff.

My family went in December and loved the resort, but of course golf was out. We are going back in July to play golf. The resort is first class -- great service and excellent amenities. It is very kid-friendly, but you and the wife can have a great romantic dinner or spa experience. There is a Leadbetter Golf Academy on the premises, and both courses are supposed to be top notch.

There are a few things for the family to do around the area. Fort Necessity is an interesting historical site where George Washington lost to the French and Indians. Falling Water is a very famous Frank Lloyd Wright house in the area. Enjoy your trip.

I live about 45 minutes away from the resort and spend a fair amount of time up there. It's a really great resort and very unique. Plenty of stuff to do besides golf like take a hummer off-roading, fish, spa's etc etc. Mr. Hardy has buildings set up with planes cars etc thats pretty neat to check out. The Links course is OK at best, not my favorite course. It is kind of interesting to play the links course and see Moose, Zebra and other wild animals next to the course. Mystic Rock on the other hand is a great track, very fair test of golf IMO. Great practice facilities also. If you have any other questions just let me know, I would be more then happy to help you out.

P.S if you do play the links course watch out for the Swans, I saw a guy get too close and get his a** kicked by a swan. :huh:

Are there any other courses within an hour drive of Nemacolin that would be worth checking out? I'm looking to plan a weekend trip with my dad there this spring and was wondering if there is any other decent golf in the area.

Play their links course. It is very enjoyable.

Also, Deep Creek is a little less than an hour. It would be worth the drive to go play Lodestone. IMO Lodestone is better than Mystic Rock.

Thanks for the response. Lodestone looks great. I'm thinking 36 at Nemacolin followed by 18 at Lodestone would make a great weekend.

both course are sweet but the Dye is more difficult. As for who is going on this vacation if it is you and the wife great place or even golf buddies. Family is it not really for at all. there are places to eat on site but long rides to get to anything else.

hilton head is a better choice to me for family.
