Adams Golf: But which one?

OK, so I'm planning on two purchases next season.

New Putter: Rife Abaco (no question)
New 3 Wood: Adams ?

I've been reading up on the Adams product and I'm think about XTD A3 or Insight BUL.

Adams has always been reasonably priced so XTD A3 is not that far of a stretch financially.

For those of you that play the XTD A3 could please tell me more about your experiences with this club thus far?

Did you reshaft? My driver has a 75g shaft in it (Fuji 757).

If you're looking at the regular version, it comes with a 65g aldila dvs which is a real nice shaft as long as it fits your swing. I definitely wouldn't be so quick to reshaft unless it was way too light for you or like I said didn't fit your swing. I haven't had any other experience with it so I can't add anything else.

Get the Adams XTD A3 3 wood. It is my money club! So smooth and easy to hit.

It really depends on your game,

 

If you have a higher swingspeed and or high ballflight (not always the same). I have about 105 Driver swing speed and hit the ball generally high, but always have struggled a bit with 3-woods especially low lofted ones off the deck.

 

Anyway, the BUL is a very forgiving club and it certainly goes VERY high for a 3-wood, I really liked the shape and size of the club and wanted to really like it. I tried the 15* with the Pro-launch Red, VS proto and V2 and I just hit the thing too damn high and with too much backspin. I usually don't hit 3-woods all that great.

 

The A3 is much better in terms of spin, but my results was that neither the DVS nor the YSq really worked and hit the DVS again too high and with too much spin, the YSQ was better. I might have bought one but have been waiting to test the A3 pro, which never seems to be around in my area.

 

I am just using my BTY 16.5 4-wood now and using an extra wedge, still trying to find the elusive super 3-wood.

+1 on the Adams XTD a3. I long struggled with 3 woods and gave this a try based upon reviews. After one range session the protective plastic came off the head and it was in the bag replacing my G10. The shaft suits me very well, good ball flight, and loooong. It is a bomb. Better still, it is a very effective hybrid -- off the fairway, out of the rough as well as off the tee. The sole footprint is the size of a hybrid although the head is larger. All this at a very reasonable in price.

I've long struggled with the 3 wood as well. I can hit a 2-iron, but not a 3-wood? crazy stuff. I'm blaming it on the tool! hehe

As I recall, the manufacturer says neutral. I've not checked it myself. They come in an offset and a non offset model -- depending on your preference, with the offset not real strong but not draw biased either. There is the "pro" model, too which is of a more conventional size. I'm a happy guy with mine. Night and day over my G10 3. But then, maybe I don't overswing the Adams???

I purchased the XTD A3 and I really wanted to love it but brought it back with the 30 day. It was terribly inconsisent for me. The DVS shaft was just horrible for my swing. A single joined our foursome Saturday with one. He hit a few just terrible shots with it and he still shot a 79. After the front nine he dropped it off at his car because he said it didn't deserve to be is his bag and he'll probably break it half if he tries to hit it again. I let him know about the 30 day guarantee. He was so happy he bought me a beer from the cart girl lol. I have 3 adams hybrids in the bag and I love em. I've ordered a XTD pro 14.5 to try though. Everybody is saying it's what they thought the XTD A3 was supposed to be but better.

If you look in the Tour/Preview equipment discussion of this site, there are some cool pictures of a new Adams fairway. I would link it if I knew how, but anyway, it should be easy to find. It's still on the first page of posts.

Similar experience as previous posters, really liked the look of the club head but the DVS shaft was just too light for my taste. Looking back I probably could have thrown in something heavy and been happy, and I hate to say it but the way Adams clubs seem to go (RPM/BUL/BTY) I may pick one up around Christmas as they will probably be dirt cheap by then. The stock DVS shaft on this club is too light and plays whippier than the flex indicates. An Adams rep recommended a heavier shaft cut down by 0.5"
