This is definately the best driver i've played and you get superb control of the flight of the golf ball with the 905s head, grafalloy blue combo. However, I think it's also a club where better players will benefit more than the average golfer. Excellent club!! :drinks:

I have been looking into this driver as a possible replacement for my Launcher Comp as I am hitting it way, way too high with too much spin.

 

So my question is, how does it compare forgiveness wise with a larger, 460 cc head?

I really like this driver much more than the 983E that I had before it. I hit it high and long and can move it both ways. I will admit that it will be replaced shortly with either 905R or FT-3.

I am very happy with mine. I like the confidence I get from the S & Graf Blue combo. It won't let you down when you want to go after one every now and then. It's versatile and looks great.

 

I wanted to love the 905R, but couldn't seem to keep the trajectory down with it. I could use a little extra forgiveness sometimes, but I wouldn't trade that for the flatter, boring trajectory the 905S gives me. If they'd bring out a 460cc 905S, that's the only driver I would consider changing to...

 

FWIW, my swingspeed is typically 110mph, with 155mph ball speed. 13.5 deg launch angle and 3100rpm spin. Carry is around the 265yard mark.

:crazy: First two guys at the top of the thread have it right IMO. This is one of the few, if not the only, driver that reduces BOTH launch and spin. Most all other sticks seek to increase launch - and sometimes that's not a welcome feature. It is certainly not welcome to me. So I think this mega-983E is perfect for certain swings. And I suspect that those swings start around 110 (real 110) and go up from there. Which - if you want to work with ball speed - means at least 165 mph (someone posted that a 110 driver gave a 155 ball - but that doesn't add up - or we are measuring hosel rockets). This is not a good driver for most of the golf swings I have seen. Think of it as a TP with 20 gram weight cartridges in the front slots. I'd rather be driving a Titleist.

That was me. There were no sockets! In fact, the launch monitor showed that they were all pretty much straight shots from solid contact. I've been told that a ball speed 1.5x clubhead speed (smash factor) is pretty much as good as you can get. My numbers were only a touch shy of that. I'f you can get 165 mph from a 110mph swing, then you are doing something outstanding. Please let us all in on your secret.

 

In any event, I'm not gonna get into a pissing contest....

 

I wholehaeartedly agree with you though. The 905S is a very good driver if you want to flatten out your trajectory. The harder I swing it, the better it works for me.

I have played a few rounds with mine so far (9.5* with stock Speeder Stiff).

 

So far so good, when I do everything right it is long and straight. Low ball flight, ton of roll. If I get too agressive I can turn it over into a low hook - but if I keep a nice slow tempo I can play it straight to a draw. I am fiddling with hitting a fade with it but need more practice.

 

I also just picked up a used R in trade to try but got it out yet.

I have a 9.5* set up with a Grafalloy Comp NT 65 and LOVE it!!! A flat trajectory that just goes and goes. I especially appreciate the workability of this driver as well. All in all a fantastic club that should stay in the sack for a while.

Solid driver when you hit it solid, not too forgiving but solid shots are super long and workable.

I read the above comments about the SS/BS. Smash factor is found when you divide ball speed by swing speed. So that would be 155/110=1.41x smash. So technically you were getting a 1.41 smash with your numbers. 165/110=1.5x smash so the guy was right about the numbers. I'm not saying you weren't swinging 110, there are a number of factors that could be affecting the ball speed. My guess is you were hitting a lower quality ball in the test such as a beat up range ball with no dimples. Its worth mentioning because doing these test with the wrong ball can give all sorts of bad numbers such as higher spin and launch angle. That leads to inaccurate analysis. Also, some of these launch moniters are a little flaky. Anyways, with your swing spind you probably are getting closer to 160-165 on the course. By the way, I love the 905s. I use to have an 8.5 with an X YS-7 and it was a beast, both to swing and in results. I had to work to get it higher. I live in texas so this was a welcome change. Great club. The J33p that I'm currently playing is in the same vein with the shape.

I have 2 905s currently. One is 9.5 degree with GD YS Power 75g R flex but plays to a stiff and love everything from feel, trajectory to distance. My second one which i have added last month is a 8.5 degree with Comp NT 85g Stiff. My clubmaker suggested that i only insert the shaft at least 2inches to play it at a stiff otherwise it will play like x-stiff if it is all the way thru. Anyway i had the chance to play couple rounds of golf and range sessions. All i can say is WOW!!! Distance and Control is amazing with this combo. Very nice, smooth and med trajectory, i can play a slight draw or a fade or straight. Very workable club. The first couple Par4s that average around 375-385 yds, have about 110-125yds left for my second shot, birdied both holes. Par 4 336yds, my second shot was about 40yds left(with the wind) and use my 60 lob wedge, got a birdie! Have couple of par5s 484 and 505, the first i drove to close to 200yard marker, took my 4hybrid and got it in for a bird!, second par5 drive, left me with my second shot about 225 and parred it. My playing partner was in awe that my drives goes a long ways than my normal drive with the 905s YS Power shaft. So far this beast is in the bag and will be for a long time. Can't get past the 460cc head look so staying with the 400cc head.

I think I finally can stop looking. Honestly what a great club, for me. I have it set up with a Grafalloy Blue Stiff and an 8.5 loft. I have been searching and searching for anything that would keep the ball down, as I am a high ball hitter, and this does it. I still launch it higher than most people but the flight is definatly where it needs to be for me to gain distance. I also was never a big worker of the ball, but because this head is not super MOIed I allows me to do a little stuff if I need to. I still don't do too much but it's nice to have the option. The feel and sound are the coolest thing to me. It sounds muffled, I really can't explain, but no grotesq aluminium baseball bat s***, and it feels solid on good hits, and I get punished with bad swings, the last too drivers I played It felt good if I dead toed it, and wheres the fun in that

I currently play 905T 9.5 with stock speeder. Although it's working fairly well, everytime i hit it there is just a little more i wish it was there with the feel and the distance.

 

I understand that 905S is designed for more boring ball flight. but, Compared 905T, is 905S harder ? what about the average distance?

 

I used to play 983K, and switched to 983E. I really didn't feel E was any harder than K...and i still have the 'head' of 983E in my garage.

 

So, i'm wondering if i should make the change with T and S as well.

 

btw, i carry the drives around 250~260. and generally better player with my irons (both distance and consistency).

I have both a 8.5 degree 905T and a 9.5 degree 905S. I have the S shafted with a 65g V2 X and although it's a new union is plenty long, workable and is quite easy to control the trajectory. The 905T has an evolution stiff inserted all but 3/4" in the bore. Both heads (note different lofts) are pretty much equal in height. Both feel different. I would recommend the T to those that hit launch the ball low to mid and that have average spin numbers. The S definately lowers launch and spin.

It’s Aug. 2024 and I own more equipment, new and older, than I certainly should. This series of Titleist is outstanding and still competes with the new equipment for all performance across the board. I’ve had my 905s up against some good new drivers with Premium upgrade shafts and it still performs. I own a Callaway AI Smoke Triple Diamond with an Accra TZ6 2Gen. shaft that I went thru fitting at Club Champion, and my 905s isn’t any longer, but it is not any shorter than my Callaway. My dispersion is much better with my 905s. Probably due to the 400cc head size. My 108ss gets me 155-158 ball speed, which is plenty for me. I say all this because Mfg’s are constantly saying they are give us more distance every time a new driver comes out. I call BS because the USGA set .83 CORE just a few years prior to the release of the 905s.  Once you design a driver to max out the CORE, you ain’t getting anything more out of it. You may change the spin, or the forgiveness, but you ain’t getting anymore distance out of it. This is the very reason for some of us, we can find a driver that was built in 2005 and it still runs neck and neck with the new stuff. My 905s with Graffloy Blue is a fantastic feeling club that has very low spin and plenty of distance along with unmatched workability. Probably is why Titleist will be releasing a GT1 model  that will be a sub 400cc head size soon. BTW - my fitter has tried multiple times to buy my 905s - ain’t happening. Don’t overlook some of the older equipment, they can be a great choice.

I have two 905s drivers. I need a lower launching, lower spinning driver and this driver has been a great fit for me. The feel and sound are great too.
