Finding a course in SW London

What kind of money am I looking at to join a low-average standard course that is handy to someone living in the south-west of London (Clapham/Wimbledon area) without a car? I'm moving there in five weeks for 18 months to two years.

 

Actual course recommendations would be good too if anyone has knowledge of what's on offer in that area. I've had a bit of a look online, but looking can be hard if you don't know what to look for!

well mate i am sorry to say i dont have a lot of good news for you.

 

i lived in London for 7 years and played golf maybe 5 times over there. In the area you are talking about the closet option is Central London Golf Centre www.clgc.co.uk which i would not really call a golf course more of a park with some holes layed out. You would have to get 2 buses from Clapham

 

There are a couple of public courses on Wimbledon Common but very out of the way and if you dont have a car it is a long walk.

 

There are other courses outside of London down towards Woking (about 40 minutes train travel plus a cab ride) which you could try but it makes for a long day on the links when you have to factor in 3 hours+ of rail travel to get to golf plus a 5+ hour round on a public course on a weekend.

 

As i said i tried for a few years to keep playing but in the end it was just to hard without a car.

 

Now if you have a car that makes it 1000 times better. i would become a member at http://www.stockleyparkgolf.com/ or even just play there. be prepared for long rounds of a weekend as it is very busy. it takes would take about and hour of 15 to get trains and a cab to the course each way.

When I say Clapham, that's the general area. We might well end up in Wimbledon, by the sounds that might be better for golf.

 

When I was in London in 06 I noticed Wimbledon Park seemed a nice course, and Richmond Park GC (36 holes) and London Scottish GC were also kind of nearby.

 

Getting a car would make many things easier, but it will just depend what kind of work I get. Some of the jobs I am applying for have a car included, but others don't and cash will be tight, at least initially.

 

Will look into Stockley Park.
