Vega irons

i dont think you can base any high end or jdm clubs off the internet. go to a dealer and you will find out that for the quality you are getting they arent that much more. large oems charge good money for a cast club that takes like 30 seconds to make. high end clubs acually require grinding and finishing

Main difference in UK is the Distributor is selling CNC milled cavity backs....tourspec may be selling forged irons with non-CNC milled cavities. This is the "older process" from VEGA I am told. I am relying on email conversation with UK distributor that the milled cavities increase cost of production considerably. The "new VEGA" will be truely forged iron/CNC milled cavity / hand ground. Obviously more labor intensive.

I do not own any Vega irons from anywhere (except a set of KZG) but from what I gather from TSG and Vega Japan home site is that thet TSG is selling the Japan line. What you are saying is that the Vega's "International" line is of better quality than their domestic line hence the price difference. That does not make a lot of sense as I have been playing JDM for the past 20 years.

what is the difference between the vega irons sold for 3x the price in the UK and the vega irons sold by tourspec?? does anyone know??

The sets for sale on Tourspec are the original Vega V-Muscle and V-Cavity. Cold forged, taper tip. The newer Vega's are parallel tipped and in my opinion don't hold a candle to the originals. Feel just isn't as good. The originals felt BETTER than Miura. The new ones unfortunately don't.

They are not parallel tipped and I am a dealer and builder so I know. I have already done a set for a guy on here and we did kbs TAPER TIPPED.

Mery Christmas (belated) and Happy New Year (early)!!!!!

You know...I hope that I haven't added to any confusion here with my posts on this topic. If I may:

  1. As with the vast majority of you visiting this site, I am simply an avid golfer who probably spends too much time on the "esoteric" and not enough time working on my approach shots. I enjoy the "beauty" of the Japanese forging / technology and like you, I enjoy reading and "conversing" about the best that golf equipment has to offer...be it the Japanese market or the "boutique" US market. [example: I use Exotics by Tour Edge because I (A) prefer matched woods like my irons and (B) right now....IN MY VERY OWN PERSONAL OPINION...the fairway woods are unmatched in the US or the world for that matter. And yes, I too miss Sonartec who I "funded" with my purchases from their inception to their demise. I have also tried many FW from Royal Collection and other "great ones." For me...they work.
  2. Back to the topic at hand:
  3. I got interested in the VEGA line after a lot of reading / translating Japanese reviews into English / etc. Spent some time on the internet AND conversing with the UK representative via email (very helpful guy by the way.)
  4. I was interested in the RAFC-02 as I play cavity backs to my 14 HC and my 50 years of not enough excercise and too much time at the office. So I started asking questions of those who should know...first the UK distributor and then the US distributor.
  5. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and preferences do and will continue to vary from golfer to golfer (brilliant statement huh ?!?!?!?!?!?!?) I don't want to interject my opinions too strongly or add any "confusion" to this topic...
  6. VEGA is apparently in the process of change as I mentioned elsewhere in this thread. FOR MY OWN OPINION, there may have been created a little "confusion" between the "old VEGA - Kyeoi" and the "NEW VEGA -Kyeoi" as well the stock of club heads that TSG and other JDM sellers have in stock.

Perhaps the information on the VEGA, VEGA-US and VEGA-UK could have been

better coordinated...perhaps it is due to the fact that the US marketing plan is

held for "official" announcement at the PGA show...perhaps it is due to a small

company trying to "grow to the world" ...you add your own explanation.

BUT...I hope and I only add this lengthy post here....that I haven't added any

confusion to the topic. I was only trying to sum for the general forum reader that

  • The information that I wanted to share was from the VEGA distribution channels that "things are changing"
  • I like the feel of the new RAFC-02 cavity back and the manufacturing process is new and different / hence more costly
  • the fact that this topic has generated a lot of interest (I think I am post # 38 here) is probably good news for VEGA in that this is a pretty good sampling of opinion for their current business plans.
  • Guess we all will have to wait a couple of more months and see what comes out of the PGA show in Orlando. Then the boards can start anew! :clapping:

In the meantime, I would suggest that if you want "official information" that you contact wither the UK or US distributors. Their respective links are as follows:

UK: http://www.professionalgolfeurope.co.uk/

US: http://vegagolfusa.com/index.html

Well, I live in Ventura County, CA...it is about 58 degrees (F) outside and there is an hour or so of good light left....off to the range for me!!!!!!!!

Best regards for the coming New Year!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to answer a few of the comments which seem to be causing a little confusion.

I co-own Professional Golf Europe Ltd which handles the international distribution of Vega (and European distribution of SeeMore).

The Vega product featured on our website, www.vega-golf.com is all made with a parallel bore. The product made in Japan and which has been sold in USA for the last year has all been taper.

The production of the heads in terms of forging is identical, see the forging process on our website, the material is the same, SC25. We use our own model numbers in Europe and also CNC mill the cavities on the irons to tighten up even further the exacting weight tolerances of the heads.

I know there has been a little bit of comment on the feel of the 'new' parallel Vega... the bore, to our knowledge does not affect feel, it just gives clubmakers an easier time of stocking shafts and giving greater options to their customers... We will however have custom made taper versions of any of our clubs made for anyone specifically requiring them... there will be a lead time, but we will do it! To be totally clear, the heads are forged identically, the CNC milling makes the clubs more expensive and is the only real difference.

For your information, all of the Vega product that has been in play in Europe on the European Tour and Challenge Tour this year, has been parallel bore with only positive feedback.

We will be at The PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando later this month and would welcome the opportunity to meet any golfwrx members and show you some of the new product, plus the full forging process in detail.

One quick correction -- the heads being sold in America are not taper tip, they are about 0.1 mm tighter than Parallel. This allows for a very slight bore to parallel that takes off virtually no weight and allows for a clean inner hosel. Also, if desired, the clubs can be fit with a taper tip shaft with minimal shims, shafting beads, or whatever your tool of choice.

yes i have aset of vega cavaties with proj x satin finnish 6.0

they are now in my garage doing nothing

as i tried with them for a year they just never really worked for me

pre this i had tietkiest 704 cbs with flighted rifles which worked alot better

i moved on again with mizuno 57's blades wedges to 8iron

miz 67's 7 6 5

and miz fli his 4 and 3

they all kb tours about 5.7

the vegas look good put they just play too unforgiving

the miz blades are easier to hit

i play a lot of links golf here in UK and i think the vegas may have too much bounce

or just be a bit too fat in the sole with a bit too smaller sweet spot

maybe it was just the proects i could not adjust to

either way a costly mistake and they are now in the garage

Hi, I see you are using the original 501i Vega... why not come and have a fitting with us as I am sure you will find the shafts are the problem and we can offer you a way of trying them with a new shaft option to show you the difference available in terms of both feel and performance. I am happy to offer you the fitting free and also reshaft one of your current Vega irons with a more suitable option.. as per the info we get from Trackman after your fitting.. also free of charge. Let me know, Graham.. Professional Golf Europe Ltd

I played my RAFC-01 this weekend on effectively frozen ground. Not a single problem with the bounce on ground that resembled furry concrete!

Even with the amount of club testing I get to do, I've been really impressed with Vega irons. In feel and in performance they are amongst the best out there - with the all important proviso that you get fit.

Just to let anyone attending the PGA Merchandise Show know, Vega will be having a small booth, number 1508, showing the unique forging process and the entire range of Vega heads including some new models. I will personally be there, as will the President of Vega, Mr Akira Mochizuki. Please feel free to drop by so we can discuss Vega, our products and our future plans..

I've had the limited edition raw 02s for about 2 months now and absolutely love them. Got 3-PW with FST 115 Pro shafts. The raw finish looks great and I suspect it will look even better with time.

I hit the irons straighter and higher than my old Ping S59s and I've really noticed an improvement in the long irons since switching. One thing I've had to adjust to is the amount of spin generated on the shorter irons.

Have managed to win my first competition in a couple of years recently and am pretty sure its not a coincidence that I've switched to a fitted set of Vega irons (and wedges).

Also got a Vega driver with Accra 85 S Flex but results with that aren't so positive and am not hitting it nearly as well as my Ping G10.

Will try to post pics but have struggled to do so on this forum before.

Vega users, how would you compare Vega and Miura? I have had the chance to hit Miura irons, they were very soft but very unforgiving, especially for high handicappers who do not practice enough.

Are there any Vega irons that are easier to hit? Is the feel of Vega forged cavity backs still as good as the blades? I am asking because someone local is offering 2nd hand Vegas and Fourteens.

Am currently using x-14 pros up to 5-iron, and then it is hybrids after that. Do you think it is worthwhile for me to make the jump? Nothing wrong with my irons, but the reviews on Vega here got me thinking...

Hello

I am a mate of Freded's and also a convert to the Vega cause....the principal reason being that I am 6'5" and after visiting Chilli Dip where I had taken my Mizuno MP100 Nippon shafted irons (which were great by the way) the fitter (Ben - a top bloke) suggested that I really needed to get longer irons to improve my posture which in turn would lead to a better swing/impact position.

To cut a long story short I couldn't simply reshaft the Mizzy's without having the heads ground down to get a decent SW so in the end I ordered the Vega blades with lighter weighted heads and the clubs are really nice. On balance I hit these irons further on a better trajectory (could be in part down to longer shafted clubs now about +1.25" rather than +5/8"). Honestly I think I prefered the feel of a Mizzy blade with a Nippon shaft rather than the Vega with a KSB shaft but its not that great a difference and I think down to the shaft rather than the heads.

In the past I have had Miura's and they have been great but at the time I bought them they couldn't get lighter weighted heads - I normally would go the Miura route but purely due to circumstance the Vega guyshad the heads in stock when I was visiting them with Freded and the Miura ones would have taken something like a couple of months to order

I bought 3-PW but tend to only really use 5-PW replacing the longer irons with hybrids. I also got a sand 54 and lob wedge 58 but I think due to the extra length, being proportionally that much more longer than my previous wedges the jury is out as to whether I think these are going to stay in the bag - I have had problems hitting them fat and the release on the 54 is a bit unpredictable.

Similar to Freded I have far too many drivers and fairway woods and need to get down to the fitters to see if I can identify if I have accidentally got a driver that is actually suitable for my swing!! and then grit my teeth and sell the surplus ones...

Try the RAFC-02 or the RAFC-01

the 02's are a slightly bigger cavity than 01's, but both are great feeling... in fact the guys at Vega are really good about making up combo sets, so maybe a mix of the two....

There's no harm in trying them...!! well...you'll get hooked and end up buying them, but no harm in trying them anyway....

Quick question on the Vega 50th Anniversary cavity backs. Ran into one set on ebay, exact same head shape, except the logo on the face did not have "Vega" on it, the logo was on the sole. PM'ed the seller, and he said that they imported 50 sets, and there were no serial numbers on them. On Vega's site, it is written that only 25 sets were made and they are serialized (http://www.vega-golf.com/50th-anniversary-cavity-back-iron.htm).

Were there different sets made for different markets / continents?

Kyoei forges these heads, Vega buys them as blanks from Kyoei, it is true that Vega only made 25 sets that said "Anniversary" on them. However this "head" is available as a blank. Vega or any other (OEM) buys a bunch and then stamps them with whatever, however they want. They can put different grinds, finishes, stampings, etc.,whatever they want. The ones in the listing are the same head as the Anniversay, they are just a different model. They could be finished the exact same or my be slightly different regarding grind and finish. I don't know. Either way they are a great head and somebody made a really good purchase.

Gold's Factory has just bought this same Head from Kyoei and is finishing them with his grinds, markings and platings. Check them out: http://www.goldsfactory.com/blog/ -scroll down on the page. I haven't seen what the price is going to be but I'll bet they're going to go around $1,500+

Hope this helps.. or I should say, does this help?

IF I'm wrong, somebody chime in and tell me where I got it wrong.
