None of us knows the full details of the story so it's hard for me to make a comment either way. Singh was well within his right to ask for the test and there should be no worries if everyone is on the "up and up". At least VJ was with Phil and that prompted the test vs. Tom seeing Tiger on TV and requesting the test.

Just imagine how much he is going to whine when Bubba Watson or J.B. Holmes hits it 50 yards by him. What a cry baby, now a few guys should have his Driver checked every week, just to annoy him (a careful choice of words here). What is it with highly paid athletes. These guys have to drop all the bickering. It's not a good image for the sport to project, especially as these are two of the best. Ok so Phil maybe pompous and arrogant but Vijay needs to just let it go.

I don't understand the logic behind NOT complaining because Vijay earns a lot of money playing golf. The only reason to complain is the fact they are professional playing for money!

 

I don't care if a I see someone hitting a ADams 363R or a Callaway ERC+ (to name just two now non-compliant drivers) at the local muni, but I would let someone know if it was the local amateur tournament.

 

Hockey players ask for sticks to be checked for illegal curves all the time- why can't golfers do it if they suspect something? It wouldn't have surprised me one bit if Phil's driver had in fact been illegal.

 

One may be a baby and the other may be a pseudo- may the worst one lose.

Didn't you guys catch VJ's reason for asking for the test? I don't like VJ all that much but I think he had a point.

 

VJ thought that because the previous week a lot of guys were hitting 3-wood past Phil's driver...then, miraculosly, he was bombing it past everyone by 30 yards at the FBR. I'd be suspicious too. Maybe Phil was just throtling back in Hawaii....Who knows about these things?

I don't think he is being a baby about it. I mean if you thought your friend had an illegally driver in your club championshiop wouldn't you want it checked (if you had the resources to do it)? No matter if he was driving it 50 yds. past you or 50 yds. short of you. It's all about whether he is cheating or not. Who cares where he is hitting it? If he has an illegally club he should be penalized for it. That's what the rules state. Now granted his driver passed but what if it hadn't? I'm sure you guys would be saying that Vijay made a good decision in notifying the rules committee and for noticing that. Just my opinion.

It's entirely possible that the other equipment "challenges" go un-reported, but since Phil and Vigay have a history, anything involving those two together is a selling story.

 

In my other hobby, racing, we get people challenging parts all the time---engines, gears, tires, wheels, suspensions, etc. Basically if you're faster, everybody thinks you must be cheating, so they'll run to the officials and no sooner than you shut her down after the A-Feature you have a tech guy standing next to your car saying:

 

"I need to pump your motor", or "We need to check your shocks", or "I need your injector sleeves", blah blah blah...

 

It got to the point now where anyone who challenges has to put up $100--if the part is question is deemed legal, the owner of the part/car in question keeps the $100.....if the part is found to be illegal, then the challenger gets their $100 back and the offending part & it's owner suffer the consequences.

 

Before the "put up or shut up" cash bonds, we had people challenging parts left & right--it got ridiculous. It's been great for me, got an extra $600 last year. ;)
