My new-to-me, first ever DH89. It's my third Byron but also my first ever carbon steel putter and first long pipe neck from Byron. All aspects I've always wanted to try, it never ceases to amaze me the goods that are floating around this community and on the BST. It really is an amazing resource that we should all appreciate for allowing our putter ho-ing to reach new heights.

 

I had my 006 up for trade offers for a matter of days and was offered this 89 which is a damn near identical to my dream design 89 I was planning for this year. I was originally thinking to refresh the blue oil and send it to Byron for a some accoutrements, a sight dot and a sound slot, possibly. But now I'm sort of falling for the naked, aged blue oil which has this dark grey patina look to it that is just so unique. Verdict? Send for a refinish or keep as is?

Thanks! I think as each day passes I agree with that more, despite the fact that a fresh blue oil with some tuna added and a little polish in the face/cavity only, matte everywhere else was my original design idea. I'll accept PMs for any future advices from anyone in this thread, so as to not clutter it up with my nonsense, but I would like to hear opinions/ideas. :to_become_senile: :telephone:

 

On a side note I just love the hand fly mill, it is so impressive I don't even really understand how Byron creates such a pattern. He never ceases to amaze me and the feel is exactly the firm but consistent, responsive goodness I dream about.

Keep it as is. A fresh blue oil looks nice, but once it ages and patinas is when it looks best - My opinion.

That's no quandary at all for a good putter ho - do both! A man can't have too many flat sticks - I think I read that in Plato spmewhere.

 

Seriously, if you do get her refinished DO NOT go near that face milling, you are 100% correct in saying it looks spectacular.:-)

Yeah baby!! She just arrived today, courtesy of one of my good friends who met with Byron last week. As a bonus surprise, I opened the package to find a green leather skull and bones stitchback he had thrown in just because he is a top bloke!!

Here is a close up glamor shot of my custom 007 that I have been gaming on and off for about 8 or 9 years probably. It started off as an oil can but that finish came off quickly and I kind of prefer the raw carbon. It has developed a nice patina over time.

Traded the 8812 back to Nate who was the original owner for his 615 and when I got it I pulled the head and sent straight to BOS. Here are some before and afters... I can not say enough good things about BOS, I love the way it came back.

 

 

After.... Satin black finish, added the site line and cherry dot. Black shaft from Putter Lounge and the Byron grip to 34". Pretty psyched about this one...

 

 

This is awesome, can I ask who did the shaft? Or where you got the shaft?

Putter lounge is great. I buy all my putter shafts from them. Lots of colors and sizes. They fit well and finish has held up well.
